Woopo Wetland

This is a very big and old wetland in Korea where migrant birds flock in the winter season. It is very good to walk or to bike around it. You can hire tandem bikes at the entrance.

I was kind of disappointed visiting the Upo Wetland. It is always advertised as a great swamp of special beauty, but in reality it is more of a lake embedded in a nice countryside. However, I visited this place in early May 2016 going there by public transportation. After arriving at the Changnyeong Bus Terminal, you need to find the... More

I think it is the most spots of Korea. It is selected as Number 3 must visit locations in Korea. If you want some time off from the city, this place is definitely a place to go. Many photographers visit here each year to take photos. It is about 20 minutes taxi ride from Changnyeong intercity bus terminal and there... More

Very interesting place. We arrange a tour to Changnyeong and a climb up Mt Hwawangsan with Roger Shepard with Hike Korea. Fortunately he researched the area and thought this might be a place we would like to see. He was correct. After the climb and tour of Changnyeong, Roger took us to Upo Wetlands before returning us to DongDaegu station.... More

Upo is the name of the wetland made up of four humongous ponds(it's too larget to be called a pond but not a lake). It is not man made eventhough there are dikes built during early 20th century. And it is under the Ramsar protection project. There are different trails which you can choose from. The biggest pond is also... More

There are lots of migratory birds. We enjoyed observing them flying in triangular shaped groups. They went underwater and floated in lines. We borrowed bikes and rode around the wetland. I prepared a pair of binoculars and it's was very good idea. We visited there at Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. We spent the night at spurious hotel at Bugog... More

C1 ( 2013.06.01 ) There was a swamp park good for walking. Trails along the beautiful swamp views are well made. The scenery from the observation deck of the hill have a lot of admiration in the middle of walkway. If you want to enjoy the trails more fun, you can rent bicycles at the entrance. And ecological museum, wetland... More

Upo is unique as one of the only inland wetlands in the country. The location of Upo is very rural, and is relatively unknown even in Korea. The wetland is an important bird sanctuary and has been recognized by Ramsar as of high ecological importance. Upo wetland can be enjoyed very pleasantly in 1-2 hrs. I highly recommend renting a...
