About
One of the first true boutique wineries in Niagara with vineyards first planted in 1980. Thirty Bench has hit full stride in the last few years with the focus on small lots of low-yield handcrafted wines. The winery has earned numerous accolades, including Canada's Best Small Winery of the Year 2015 and Winemaker of the Year 2015. Single-block, old-vine Rieslings are the soul of Thirty Bench; equally fine reds and Chardonnays have also emerged since the 2005 vintage. At the winery, enjoy personalized seated tastings with beautiful views of the vineyards and Lake Ontario in the distance. A visit to the rustic winery, or joining their email list, is the best way to access the winery's new and library wines.

Dropped in mid week to an empty tasting room, in the middle of two days of serious wine touring.

As with all our winery visits, the two of us had specific varietals that we wanted to taste. But you don’t have that option …. For a $25 tasting fee, you get to taste four wines that they choose, including a rose (maybe in May, in anticipation of summer sipping) and a late harvest sweet wine (Vidal??) that neither of us had an interest in.

Now, this is a winery with fabulous single vineyard Riesling…so I did make a small purchase, based on history. But no tasting….

As a side note, the young host was very friendly (and apologetic…), and did offer us an “off the books” taste of their basic red, which we were going to buy anyways.

This winery does have some excellent wines…you just may not get to taste them-:)

We usually visit the Niagara region several times a year and when we do, set up our own tour. Todays was our first visit to this winery. For this tour our group was 7 but included only 4 ‘active’ tasters. This was the third of four winery visits that were completed this trip (Kacaba was the only repeat). The facilities were adequate for the purpose but not particularly impressive one way or the other. We did not make a reservation for this tasting visit and we were taken in upon arrival - excellent. Our server for this visit was very good. The tasting was in the form of a wine flight. Options for the flight were very limited. While she was very knowledgeable with respect to each of the varietal options, the options were very limited. Unlike any winery we have visited in the region, this winery had a plan to welcome children – drink boxes, snacks, books. Very thoughtful – very well done. While the children’s program was very good, the wine experience was not. It is unlikely we will return as there are much better options available in the area.

Hello, Thank you for your review and I am glad that you had an opportunity to visit Thirty Bench. Thirty Bench his a small rustic boutique winery with a relaxed atmosphere. Guests can choose to sit inside and enjoy the breathtaking views of rolling vineyards and Lake Ontario or outside beside the vines. We take pride in our vineyards and the small lot wines we produce. We do offer two different wine tasting flights daily. Our pre-selected wine flight (which includes 4 pre-selected wines) or our premium wine tasting flight which allows you to choose from 17 wines from our small/limited production wines that are produced 100% from our own vineyards. . It sounds like you chose the pre-selected flight during your visit. We welcome children especially in the summer when they can enjoy our spacious outdoor area. Hopefully you will visit another time and have an opportunity to choose our Premium Wine Tasting flight. Cheers

Beautiful view, and very well laid out winery. We had a great tasting experience, with a very helpful staff member. Wines are good, and generally well priced for a small craft winery. We will return.

Popped in for a tasting this afternoon. We had never been here before and Deb was absolutely amazing. She greeted us with the most positive energy and we were laughing and smiling for our entire visit! We loved the Pinot Gris and Merlot and we bought those and a bottle of the sparkling Effervescent Riesling just off of her description and recommendation. Truly and unforgettable experience! Thanks Deb!

It was nice to get away from it all and have a seated wine tasting at Thirty Bench! We visited on a nice sunny weekday. All COVID-19 protocols were in place, it was not at all busy. The service was wonderful with just the right amount of information provided on the wines and the area. Overall a pleasant experience and lovely wines to taste and purchase!

My wife and I were spending an extended weekend in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and joined the he Niagara Winemaker's Collection Club at Trius winery on our first day. So, we decided that we wanted to sample the wines from the other wineries in this club, which took us to Thirty Bench. The Beamsville area is a bit of a drive from NOTL, but we made a morning out of it an saw beautiful country on a beautiful Saturday (August 10). When we arrived at Thiry Bench we couldn't have been more pleased. It is a small boutique winery nestled in the middle of their own vinyards. Although there were a number of patrons inside, my wife and I were greeted immediately and provided information on what the winery had to offer. Given we were now in the Niagara wine club, this offered us the opportunity to sample their Benchmark series, consisting of small batch whites and reds. For the most part, we were impressed. Deb was our server and guided us expertly to a tasting that showcased a beautiful assortment of whites and reds. Known for their rieslings, we had a sparkling and 3 different small lot rieslings - Steel Post, Wood Post, and Wild Cask. All uniquely expressed their specific terrior, and all were beautiful wines. We also then sampled reds - equally well done and each distinctly different. We left with a Wood Cask riesling, a small lot Cab Franc and a small lot Cab Sauv, but we could have left with far more! The tasting room enhanced the experience, as it consisted of a u-shaped bar with a panoramic view of the vinyards. It was an ideal setting. We absolutely loved the tasting experience, including the attention and knowledge Deb provided. All in all, I would highly recommend a visit to Thirty Bench. It is well worth the trip. We will be back!n

Out for a drive and stumbled upon this winery. It is a beautiful setting with outside benches and nice views of the Lake. You can try wine tasting if you wish. Not sure if you can eat there but I think not.The wines are a bit pricey and I found the selection to be a little on the small side. But I would recommend a visit here.

Margaret served us our samples of wine and was so very informative. She also helped us decide which wine to buy. Her pleasant personality and interesting conversation made our experience more fun.
I have done many wine tours in the Niagara area and Italy and Thirty Bench has it all - small homey wine tasting environment and a quality product. Tasting is well priced at $15 for four tastings and if you buy a bottle they offer a $5.00 discount.
This is a great starter point for any touring.
My only suggestion for this and all wineries is to add small snack even for an extra charge.

Monday in late fall does not provide an abundance of tasting opportunities in Niagara Region particularly with fewer travelers due to COVID. We were very fortunate to stumble across Thirty Bench, a winery that I was not at all familiar with. We were the only visitors during the mid-afternoon and Margaret spoiled us rotten. We had selected the three wine tasting option (for $15 you get to choose from seven of their wines - five of which are their specialty small lots - generally only a few hundred cases produced) but once Margaret discovered we loved Pinot Noir she immediately had us doing a flight of the 2018, 2016 and 2011 - and for no extra charge. She was incredibly knowledgeable of the wines and made the experience that much more enjoyable. We ended up buying a bunch of wine including the very good 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon - a very rich and complex wine which will age well. For every bottle you purchase you do get refunded $5 of the tasting fee up to the amount you paid). The wines here aren't super cheap but the quality is very high. I would highly recommend you book your tasting online before visiting as the shop and tasting room (which is tastefully done and provides great views of the adjacent vineyard) are not very large.

Had a wonderful visit late Sunday afternoon. This is such a pretty location, and their wines are lovely! We did our wine tasting with Marla and she was so sweet. Their wines are fantastic and we left with a bottle of their Sparkling Riesling that has one awards (2018 Decanter Gold and 2018 Drinks Business Silver) and a bottle of their Small Lot Cab Sauv 2016 - divine!!! Always such a worthwhile experience at Thirty Bench...thanks, Marla!
