It is a train station with history, clean, organized and with basic comfort. The tourist train station doesn't even look real.

In this tour what counts is the train ride.

It was very easy to buy tickets, and convenient as the train station is close to everything else in this small town. The train ride to the Nariz del Diablo was wonderful, the commentary from the guide was in both Spanish and English. The Alausí train station looks like it has been renovated - it is clean and welcoming. A great trip.

Absolute waste of time and money. Why 35 USD? For what?
Views are average at best, you dont understand a single word the guide is saying, be it english or french, and then you spend one hour in an overprized indigenous village with 2 buildings. Sorry people, but Im giving you 1 point only because I cant give 0! Dont go!

Although the train looks nice, everything is clean and the town is very cute, this train is not your money's worth. Scenery is nice but more or less the same with a bus. Very touristic stopover with so called "local activities" like dancing show and taking pics with a lama. The stop was long and not to special, there was a tiny museum. Overall: Overpriced and not spectacular

Due to the Covid the train ride has stopped, nevertheless the compartments and locomotive can be visited at the train station. I could almost feel the unique experience when I saw them.

It is a fantastic place, has a lot of culture and history about a town that was the midpoint between the mountains and the coast, here was also done the trade and smuggling of several products in the time of Eloy Alfaro.
The house where Eloy Alfaro spent his last night alive is three houses away from mine.

We weren’t able to ride the train this time, but it’s still fun to wander over to the station, browse the handicraft booths and have a look at the cars and engine. Without the train, there would be little reason to make a stop in Alausi, which would be unfortunate, since the little town is lovely and authentic.

Before taking the tren ride, we shopped around the various booths, and although we never purchased anything this time, we have previously bought a aht and T-shirt which are very unique. They also have a very nice cafe.

By boarding the train for the Devils Nose you are riding a small part of what once was one of the great railways in the world and a fantastic piece of engineering. What today between Alausi to Sibambe a train-excursion for tourists is, was once the pride of Ecuador. In 1908 the construction of the railway was an international acclaimed achievement.

The Guayaquil and Quito Railway line over the Andes was built between 1897 and 1908 under Eloy Alfaro, a president who was removed from office in 1911 and lynched by a mob in Quito in 1912. In Alausí you find his statue.

The 464km Ferrocarril Transandino is in 1067mm gauge and reaches 3,619m. The southern line to Cuenca is 145 km and was built between 1915 and 1965. Sadly, time and neglect have taken their toll and today only short rail segments remain in service for tourists.

By reaching Sibambe train-station, few passengers realise that here the line forks, to Guayaquil to the right and to Cuenca to the left. At Sibambe junction you find that the rails of the Cuenca line have been removed.
