We drank in multiple national parks on this trip including Crater Lake, Sequoia, and Yosemite and somehow the Tall Tree Groves subtly blew us away the most. You have to get to the visitor center early enough to get one of the fifty car passes...More

My family of five from NY ranging from 9-43 hiked this trail while staying in the area for a few days. Had to go to the Orick visitor center and get a permit as only so many are allowed per day. Got the directions and...More

First time at Redwood NP for me and my family. We arrived at 10:00 at the visitor center and obtained our pass / code for the Tall Trees Grove. Amazing place, really special and a bit of the beaten track especially compared with Muir Woods...More

This is a special place that requires a bit of planning. Access to the one lane road is via a locked gate. You get the combination at the park visitor center which opens at nine, and they limit access, so plan accordingly, particularly if you...More

Another way to access the tallest trees is to take the Redwood Creek Trail. Park at the Trail head at the bottom of the hill (also marked as the trailer turnaround) and hike into the trees. This trip is for the more hard core, adventurous,...More

So pretty with all the huge trees, and to think the cAli forests were like this years ago. Couldn't help but photo several of the trees,so tall and stately. You could smell the pines with the damp air which makes the winter driving another delight.

Throughout a lot of the hike I had a lot of trouble looking up though, because there was so much interesting stuff happening around me! Banana slugs! Ghost snails! Weird, lush ferns that look like Jurassic Park! The trees (including, allegedly, the tallest tree in...More

To get to this remote hike, you have to first pop in to the visitor center near Orick to get a free pass and the key code to the locked gate at the mouth of the gravel road which you drive down to the trailhead....More

This is one of the gems of Redwood National ark. To get there you first go to park headquarters a mile south of Orick. They will give you written directions and a pass that is free. It has the days combination on it. There is...More

We parked at the bottom of the hill (trailer turn around) at the trailhead and hiked in. I drove up Lady Bird Johnson and it was paved to that point. If the park issues a permit to drive into the grove I'd ask for a current... More
