Old mosque

Be sure to respect rules and tradition. There were kids to guide us and bring around. They spoke Bahasa Indonesia. Not sure of their fluency in English though

This is one of the oldest mosque in Lombok dated from XIV century according to the locals. The materials used to build it primarily are bamboos and timber with black fibers from sugar palm for the roof. Unfortunately the mosque is only open during certain days of the year only. Beside the mosque there is a graveyard for the prominent... More

We only stopped for a few minutes to walk up to the mosque, which is a simple bamboo building. Our guide said they have to redo it every 6 years. It's not so much that the building is original, because it isn't, but it has been redone all these years on the same ground. It's also a burial for early... More

An amazing construction which is used 3 times a year. You can only walk round and admire the bamboo work in the mosque and the cemetery. You cannot visit the village elder's (king) compound next door. BUT visit the weaving shop opposite and ask for Antor or his grandfather and you may be invited to look round the homestead. We... This is said to be the oldest mosque in Lombok. When I visited, there was no one in this place. The structure is made entirely out of wood and parts of trees. Not the typical mosque you would normally see. There are some womenfolk with their daughters weaving cloth for sale across the road. You may want to support them... More

Being in Lombok for a week, everyone mentions that you should see this Ancient Mosque in Bayan Beleq. It is extremely low key, and very much worth the trip -- it was interesting and fun. It is very easy to stop off on the way back from the waterfalls. Basically, it is a mosque that is approximately 300 or so... More

I was extremely reluctant to be taken to this site because I thought it was going to be one of those tourist traps. However, I was wrong; and to see the first mosque looks nothing like a regular mosque, it is refreshing and what a surprise. North Lombok is full of traditions, and apparently form a strong community bond within... More
