A Worthwhile Detour

My wife and I are glad that we decided to take the slight detour to visit this place. We knew about Saint James rum, from having it on tasty baba au rum in France. We didn't need... read more

So awesome! We were on our way from an early hike on mount pelle back to vauclin by car. Saw a sign for the banana museum and this was on the way so we stopped. They had just opened at 9:30am. We took about an hour touring the facility. Signs are in French mostly, but Aimee have English too! Such... More

My wife and I are glad that we decided to take the slight detour to visit this place. We knew about Saint James rum, from having it on tasty baba au rum in France. We didn't need to buy any at the museum, but did buy some delicious novelty liquor; coconut and orange (called chrubb), which we could not find... More

But not the most pleasant. Not much to visit. One good point is the old copper alembics which look very nice. The train didnù't work during our visit.

It was a long but interesting road trip up the Eastern coast to Sainte Marie which is in itself a cute small town. Worthwhile. The 40 year old rhum tried in "degustation" was phenomenal. Very friendly staff. Well kept grounds. Neat operations in a set of old beaultiful buildings. I believe they are open 7 days a week.

Its the best place on the island to learn about rum and its history with Martinique, I got to taste many types and buy all my favourites at a much lower price than town, usually I'd mix with coke but here a little water is enough as the taste is quite refreshing compared to commercial brands of rum.

This distillery is filled with old historic buildings and is worth a visit. There is a train to take through the cane fields, but it is all in French.

The distillery is a fun place to visit just on its own, but with a bit of planning I would time your visit for when there is one of the local food and drink festivals on as they are great fun! Hundreds of stalls selling souvenirs, drinks, snacks and jerk chicken just made the whole experience so much fun. Just... More
