Minca is a tiny town in the Sierra Nevada mountains. I went to that place last year in December because I participated in a trail running organized by Merrell. The name of the trail is "Del Mar a la Cima" and it takes place in Santa Marta.

Minca is located just behind the coastal town of Santa Marta. I went to that place only once in my life, but it's enough to love it.

There are hostels with beautiful views and some of them offer paths to the top of the mountain, where you can see the hills and the coast.

Near Minca you can find the Marinka waterfalls and Pozo Azul. Those are places in nature. If you want to go to those places you only have to walk for 30 minutes approximately or if you prefer you can take a motorcycle and pay for the trip.

In the small town you can find different restaurants and a place where artisanal bread is baked I recommend chocolate bread it's the most delicious.

You will love Minca and its surroundings because you can swim in Pozo Azul or near the Marinka waterfalls, go on a tour to a chocolate farm or coffee farm, trek to Lost City, relax in a giant hammock, among other interesting activities. I hope to go back to this place soon.

Nice location -- but the word is out (crowded).

We visited on a side trip from Santa Marta (1 hour by car) and arrived in Minca at 9 am. The falls are 2 Km beyond the town of Minca which takes an hour to walk (up hill on a rough road). A better alternative is to hop on a motorcycle taxi and let them take you up. Not knowing the road condition, we drove our small rental car those 2 Km and got within 400 meters of the falls before the broken road forced us to stop and walk. NOT RECOMMENDED unless you have a tall vehicle (4x4) as the climb is quite rocky, there are deep ruts and you cross 2 streams. There is also no place to park a vehicle. Walk or take a moto-taxi!

You pay 5,000 per person to enter (covers both upper and lower falls). Arrive when they open at 9 to beat the rush. By 11 am it was busy and we saw lots of people headed that way as we bumped our way down.

Note, the upper falls is knee deep and the lower falls is deep enough to swim. There is a small cafe if you need water or a juice. Also bathrooms and a changing room.

In order to get to the waterfalls from town it can take an hour to an hour and a half. You pay 5000 to get in and the falls has 2 levels. The lower pool is a bit bigger and has more room but the higher part of the waterfalls has that photo op moment. There were a few people just off to the side of the higher waterfalls when I was there drawing and writing and with the backdrop and sounds of the waterfalls that must have been a great spot to be inspired.

There are the famous style nets right above the first pool which are good to relax it if they are not full. There is a changing room and washrooms for use, the water was cold and refreshing, especially after walking all that way. I would recommend walking there, you can visit oido del mundo aka the ear of the world on the way to Cascada de Marinka.

It was about a half hour hike along a dirt trail to the place in the attached photos. Along the way, there was a small place to eat where we had some tasty chorizo.
The swimming was great....
As we started to hike back to our awaiting taxi, it began to rain heavily. The trail turned to mud with running water. At the end of the trail there were several people with motorcycles who for a small fee ferried us back to our awaiting taxi. The thrilling ride on the moto was quite an experience!

Hard to get there but it's totally worte it. Waterfall is nice and cool to swim there, too. Everything is clean. The restaurant is delicious and the prices are more than fair seeing that it's the only restaurant there. Very friendly, too. Wow!

Incredible place, especially if u get there early (eg 10am) as almost have the place to yourself. 2 waterfalls. The top one is really high and impressive but not god for swimming, bottom one is a lovely pool you can swim in. Great facilities - toilets with open views of the waterfalls !, picnic benches, restaurant, 4x large flat net hammocks to chill out on. We were there 1.5hrs but could easily spent much longer.
Easy 1hr walk up from Minca.
Much better than Pozo Azul which was super crowded, no facilities, and not very impressive.

Great place to cool off in the late afternoon after the tourist rush in the middle of the day. We were staying near by so wandered down. The price has gone up to COP16k per person. Well set up with clean bathrooms and changing facilities (though the hammock above the 2nd change cabin makes it rather less private!). We enjoyed a beer after our swim (lower pool) and paddle (top pool). Better than the Juan Curí falls. Intrepid to drive up just for this but a well deserved rest for those that walk up, which is arguably easier (definitely safer) than the drive. Got wet with the late afternoon rains but didn’t spoil our enjoyment.

Beautiful waterfalls. Traveled here by 4x4 and boy was it a bumpy (but fun) ride. I honestly can’t imagine hiking all the way up there, but saw several people doing so. The waterfalls are beautiful. There are two levels, the top level is gorgeous and more picturesque. The lower level is better for swimming. Changing rooms are available and they were clean, as were the bathrooms. There’s a little restaurant on site but we didn’t eat there. Great views photo ops from the giant hammocks. Be aware there are a lot of stairs. Doable for those who are not very active, you’ll just have to take your time.

This place is pretty cool. It’s pretty but slightly smaller than expected. But thanks to a small entrance fee (water is free in Columbia but the land owner charges to enter) it is clean. Very clean. It’s a short drive via 4x4 road or about a one hour hike uphill from town. Well worth it

It is a great place to go with family, friends or alone, make sure to prepare for a 12km walk or rent a bike or a car, if you by car make sure to have a good 4x4.
We didn't like specially the food at the restaurant, but the cascades are a great place, the coffee is great and the desserts really worth the try, don't choose the lasagna, the burgers are ok, not for the outside the world.
The place is really clean and very easy to read and walk
