The mother of the late King Rama XI had this wonderful villa built. It is designed much like a Swiss Chalet with Thai interior. The walking tour with headphones is wonderful and explains most of what you are able to view. The detail throughout are fabulous. This is a special treat for any who have learned about the Royal Family,... More

Lovely place to visit for a morning or afternoon, this house is built almost entirely of wood, but in a European style. You can take audio tours around it using the devices provided, and you get some quite stunning views from the balconies. It is worth mentioning that as this is a former Royal abode you will be required to... More

The late Kings Mother lived here and it was a simple but elegant place. An awesome view and the surrounding grounds was beautifully kept. Worth touring.

We had only planned to spend about an hour there but when we started to look around we decided to spend the day. The villa is beautiful and in excellent condition. The gardens are amazing and the views from around the area are great. The history behind this development is also very interesting and is a very worthy cause. The... More

We visited both the royal villa and the beautiful gardens during our visit. The late King's mother lived at the villa during her latter years. The audio in English is excellent and gives an accurate account of her simple life and how she assisted the local tribes people. The gardens when we visited where in full bloom and quite spectacular.... More

The villa consisted of two places, a garden and a royal house. Combined entrance fee was THB200 for each adult. The villa was built by King Rama VIII and IX's mother. And it was said that she built the place to encourage locals to change their lives, from growing opium to diverse cash crops, e.g., flowers, coffee and fruits. Located... More

The Royal Villa has a good English audio guide. It's a very nice place to see how the late King's mother lived. There are some beautiful displays in some rooms and the balcony offers a great view of the village and hills. Also there is a beautiful flower garden nearby.

We saw all of the attractions in Mae Fa Luang and this was one of the highlights. Even though I didn't know much about Thai royalty, it was still very cool to get such an inside look at the Princess Mother's personal life. The handsets were very convenient, especially for an English speaker, and gave much more meaning to the... More

The strange thing about the grounds is it is planted with so many flowers typical of Switzerland. I thought it a shame , even though the are beautiful....I love the Asian exoctic flowers and plants found throughout Thailand. There were orchids there too . Lots of them but so many geraniums!!
