No bugs, beautiful weather and stunning waterfalls all around. I have been wanting to visit for 5 years and finally made it. Excellent air service from Toronto Island Airport. - Gene R JSilver Spring, Maryland10,794 contributionsEasily accessed falls with parking near its boardwalk. We stopped here on our trip from Thunder Bay to Vermilion Bay. After paying C$6.50 at the manned booth, we parked and walked 300m over the Kaministiquia River to the boardwalk on the other side which gave a beautiful flowered view of the 131’ falls. We returned to the boardwalk close to where we parked and took a selfie with the roaring falls. Very impressed.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten August 10, 2024
- adventuremeBrantford, Canada146 contributionsGreat day hiking at the Falls!Beautiful spot. The hike is great. Steep incline at the end but so worth it. This is a must stop spot when in Thunder Bay! Nice store to grab a few souvenirs too! Lots of places to have a picnic and lots of parking.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten August 16, 2024
- adrianna24singsTraverse City, Michigan422 contributions"The Niagara Falls of the North" Nature at its Best!So glad this place was recommended to us by a local from Thunder Bay. The Kakabeka Falls known as the "Niagara Falls of the North" are stunning from all angles. Plenty of walking trails to explore the area. These are the second largest falls in the province of Ontario and well worth seeing. If you're looking for a nature walk, don't miss out on Kakabeka Falls. We enjoyed watching the birds flying over the Kaministquia River near the falls. They were such lovely birds and seemed so happy living in their paradise. Wish we had known about the beach for swimming, but didn't realize about it until we left.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten September 8, 2024
- Jeanette SPleasant Hill, Missouri268 contributionsMake sure to walk both sides of the fallsWhile we did travel normally at the end of the season where the falls are lower than the rest of the year, they were still breathtaking to say the least. Make sure that you walk across the falls to the other side near the visitor center/shop. The most top you can walk has the BEST view ever of it.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten September 27, 2024

We made a quick stop here before heading out of Thunder Bay. You do have to pay to enter the park to view the falls, but a 2 hour pass is more than enough to explore the park. The falls are right beside the parking lot and are easily accessible. Luckily there was lots of water coming over the falls and we were pleasantly surprised. We also drove around the campground which was underwhelming. The two campgrounds nearest the falls were not good quality sites and we were glad we did not decide to camp here. The campground further back where the electrical sites were had much better quality sites, so I would only recommend camping in that area. Make sure when in town to stop at a local bakery, coffee shop or eatery to grab a snack and support the small local businesses.

It was a gorgeous sunny October day and as we travelled through Northern Ontario we had particularly looked forward to visiting Kakabeka Falls. Checked the website, and they are open 365 days per year.
Imagine our dismay when we arrived to find the kiosk to purchase day passes is closed, the machine to purchase said passes is covered with a trap and obviously not operating. Numerous signs state that it is necessary to have the day pass.
Only way to purchase a pass is by scanning a QR code. But we do not have data on our phones. We are not the only ones who, for one reason or another don't have data plan. In fact, there are still people who don't carry cell phones.
If you state that you are open all year, at least respect your customers enough to provide a way for them to purchase a pass on site, whether by a live person or a machine. This could be considered an accessibility issue.
We will return in a few weeks, and perhaps we will purchase a day pass online before our travel date...however we feel we missed the best weather oportunity for a visit.

Camped in the Provincial park 6 days and another 2 days at Happlyland Camping nearby. Hiked over 30 km of trails! Safe, clean, healthy environment. Close to Thunder Bay for shopping or necessities though also a good grocery store right in Kakabeka Falls.

The falls look great! The gorge also looks nice, particularly with the morning mist when we visited. There are plenty of visitor facilities, with two park stores: one on the entrance and another one at the west side of the falls.
This park seems to be able to handle larger crowds in normal times, but glad to be visiting it at its quiet state.

Absolutely beautiful. Walk or roll across access bridge and pathways for great views with fewer crowds than on the platforms, though platforms are well designed. Was particularly quiet early morning. Well worth stopping if you're in the area.

We found this entire Provincial Park and Attraction to be clean, well kept, safe and scenic. We camped here in the Provincial Park Campground while touring North Western Ontario. The campsites were very well maintained and the campground washrooms were constantly being cleaned. The Falls themselves are quite spectacular and this is a place where every visitor, no matter age or physical ability, can enjoy the views. There are two trails to walk. The upper trail is level and we'll groomed. the viewing points as well as the trail are handicap accessible. The longer, lower trail is a great walk that takes at least an hour but give yourself more time if you want to just relax and enjoy the forest and river. An excellent park.

Don’t pass by without stopping at this beautiful gift from Mother Nature. It was so much more than I thought it would be. It appears (to my uneducated eye) to be about one third the size of Niagara Falls. I’m probably wrong, but, It is absolutely stunning. Luckily we visited at a time when all the tributaries were full and the water rushing over the falls was amazing. The viewing platforms and walkways were excellent, allowing great access to the Falls and surrounding areas. A great place to spend a couple of hours.

My daughter and I appreciated these beautiful falls. We paid for a 2 hour pass for $6.50. That was plenty of time for us to view the falls, read the plaques about its history and we walked the easy 1.1 km hike loop. We made sure to ask the attendant at the window for a map of the grounds when we paid for parking. Bring a sweater! It was a hot day but very breezy by the falls. They have a little gift shop with souvenirs and t-shirts. We bought a Mr. Freeze for $1 to quench our thirst. Our visit was well worth it!

Hi, I am planning a drive out to Banff, would like to drop in and see the falls. How much time would you suggest to budget for a visit to the falls ? thank you.

There is many walking trails around the falls as well as a provincial park should you want to stay overnight camping. You can spend from 1/2hour to 2 hours if you want, it's up to you. It has a lovely little town that you can eat at their restaurants right up to a delicious little ice cream spot. Easy to maintain social distancing in today's world

Hi, Sandra. What would you like to know about this attraction?
1. I have someone with a disability and is in a wheelchair. I have heard its accessible and you can walk around the falls and get beautiful views, can anyone confirm this?
2. What is the fee to get in and park?
3. Can anyone recommend any good restaurants they ate at in the area?
Thanks,
Sandi

Hi , i think that they are referring to the Lake Superior circle tour if you search under this heading there is a website, i cannot give you a link to the site as it would be outside of the rules governing answers to questions.

How and where do you buy a park pass?
Written August 26, 2017
There is a kiosk right at the entrance to the parking lot that accepts credit cards. But it doesn't seem to be the most reliable piece of equipment, so you may have to go inside the building.
