Despite the bad weather on Sunday, we had a great day. There was a huge battle, lots of people dressed up and loads of activities for kids too. And best of all, it was free.

Probably the worst castle in the world. Very small, very derelict, horrendously repaired and bodged up, very closed and inaccessible. It really is just a shell and not worthy of more than 5 minutes of time.

Drove all the way there to find that it's shut due to building work. No mention of this on the heritage web site.

Hylton Castle the tour was good climbed 84 steps to a lovely view worth recommending I would love to go again

Building itself is all boarded up. Unfortunately the land it stands on was full of broken glass. Appears to be a local hang out. Spent approx 10 mins looking around. Couldn't allow children to run free incase they fell onto the large pieces of broken...More

Its not at the moment but work starts later this year to renovate the castle and turn it into a educational/visitor centre. I grew up playing in the castle and can't wait until the work is finished to see what its like It... More
