Lovely sea front, but the amount of rubbish and plastic on the beach is annoying, also dog poo for dogs with untrained owners. Nice selection of pubs and restaurants but all are a bit more pricey than your average pub.

Every week I take a stroll along this coastline with a friend of limited mobility. Always different, the tides determining our route. Plenty of good, varied places to eat/drink eg Sue's Cafe, Morrison's. Well-maintained coastal flower/shrub beds. Seasonal lights and fairground attractions.

Roker beach joined the other 31 beaches around the UK by sculpting at low tide a lost soldier, excellent work which attracted a large crowd between tides

There has been an invasion of sand. It got everywhere. Even on the beach. Apart from that, Danny Boyle will be leading a remembrance service there.
