The gardens are well taken care of. We went on a Tuesday, which was seniors day. Also they had a golf cart that we could get a ride on to another part of the garden. That was so helpful, otherwise it could be quite the long walk between the areas.

Although I enjoyed the landscaping, I was disappointed to see that the amount of money poured into the "Aga Khan" garden was pathetic the water pools were dried up were by the water lillies have died.So sad. The Japanese garden which is my favorite had algae in it........so sad. But on a good note the ladies that made our sandwiches did a great job.

The rating for the UofA Botanic Garden will really depend on what time of year you attend, and what you are looking to get out of the experience. It is currently a bit of a confused attraction, with some ultra modern facilities in construction stage, mixed with some of the oldest cultivated plants/trees in the province (if they haven't cut them down yet).
We had a GREAT experience there for the Northern Lights Dining experience in February, but a recent trip in May was disappointing. Currently (May 2022), the gardens are just starting to bloom, and like all Edmonton region gardens, very little is happening other than some greening. Where the natural habitat has been left untouched, this is like a beautiful walk-in-the-woods in Alberta. Unfortunately, compared to 10 years ago, the gardens are now more modern, with an updated food facility, and the "iconic" Aga Khan Pavilion (which in my opinion has completely ruined a natural area).
If you are looking for something that would be remotely equivalent to the Buchart Gardens in BC, you are going to be sadly disappointed. Native species here have short bloom periods, and are late to bloom, with our first blooms occurring around the May long weekend (with the pin and choke cherries) and perhaps a bit before with some of the crocuses (assuming that field still exists in the garden). Irises and tulips will bloom in May-June depending on the year, but most of our species are more understated.

Be informed…..with -30C windchill, this event was not cancelled so refunds were not issued. They do advise “If there is a severe weather warning issued by Environment Canada, or the temperature drops below a certain threshold, we may cancel the evening's activities.” They do not state what the threshold is and obviously -30C doesn’t meet it.

Fine dining under the stars. And the sky was relatively clear last night. The dome is so cozy. Everything you need to be warm is there and also some safety measures. We were on the first course when we realized a big mistake. But the management did not spoil our night. Kamal let us stayed and it's all on the house! Tammy was also so kind serving our meals. The foods are yummy and exquisite. Thank you for making it a superb experience for us and for our kids. The spirit of Christmas truly lives and not just purely business.

Luminaria: a very big disappointment. Not much to see at all. Japanese gardens was a nice stroll but only lined with paper lanterns. Nothing of color or excitement for the season. Wouldn't suggest it as a seasonal outing to anyone.

We're sorry to hear that Luminaria didn't meet your expectations. While many of our guests tell us how much they love the serenity of a candle-lit stroll through a snowy garden and find it to be a special part of their holiday season, we understand that it may not have been to your liking. We hope we can welcome you to the Garden during another season!

I have thought about going to this for a long time but never got around to it. It was amazing! I especially liked the Japanese garden---it was so peaceful and beautiful. I will definitely go again.

Very disappointed. The Japanese Garden & Aga Khan were nice but the rest is overgrown with weeds and uncared for. The inside gardens were closed. Don't recommend wasting money on this.

We're sorry to hear you had a disappointing experience during your visit. We're happy to report that our indoor showhouses have reopened after being closed during restrictions. And, we have expanded our horticulture crew to bring our garden up to a higher standard of maintenance.

Hi
Do you have a restaurant that can feed approx 50 persons, and what would be the cost
Kerry_UABG
Edmonton, Canada
Thank you for your interest in the Garden. We have an outdoor concession with soup and sandwich offerings, along with ice cream, beverages and other light fare. The concession is open during our regular hours. For a large group of 50 people, we recommend that you contact our Tours department directly at (780) 987-3054 ext. 2259, and they can provide details about our group discounts, and assist with reserving ahead for lunch.

is this a good place to visit in late May
Kerry_UABG
Edmonton, Canada
Thank you for your interest in the Garden.May is a lovely time to visit - the Garden is truly starting to springing to life. The leaves are out, the grass is greening up, and the early blooming perennials are out. We don't plant out our annual flower displays until early June because of frost risk, but there is still lots to see in a beautiful setting, including the Kurimoto Japanese Garden and the indoor showhouses and butterfly house. I hope you enjoy your visit.

Thank you for your interest in the Garden. In September 2016, our drop-in tram tours are limited to weekends, starting at 10:15 am and running regularly (approximately every hour) until the last tram at 3:30 pm. The cost for a tram tour is $5 plus GST, in addition to your admission charge ($9.75+GST for seniors). We hope you enjoy a lovely visit to the Garden.

Is the park suitable for someone in a wheelchair. Are exhibits wheelchair accessible ?
Kerry_UABG
Edmonton, Canada
Thank you for your interest in the Garden. An extensive brick pathway system makes much of the Garden accessible and enjoyable from wheelchairs and strollers. Some pathways have less accessible surfaces (grass, wood chips, gravel, uneven surfaces, natural areas), and there are some areas with steep grades where assistance is recommended for wheelchairs. I hope this information helps!

Kerry_UABG

Hello, and thank you for your interest in the Devonian Botanic Garden. While the peak outdoor blooming season is typically mid-June through August, there is beauty to be found in the Garden in all seasons. Early May is an unpredictable time in terms of weather and plant growth in our Zone 3 region. This year, we have had a record-breaking warm spring and many plants that would normally bloom in June are already looking great in the first week of May. In colder years, this might not be the case. What we love about May is the sight of the season's fresh green leaves unfurling, perennials poking their heads out of the ground, geese on the ponds and the arrival of the exotic butterflies in the Tropical Showhouse. The Kurimoto Japanese Garden is always gorgeous. We hope you can come and enjoy early spring at the Garden!

Hello, Just curious do you anticipate the apple trees will have blossoms this coming Mother's day weekend?
Kerry_UABG
Edmonton, Canada
Thanks for your interest in the Garden. With the unseasonably warm weather this spring, our apple trees blossoms are starting to open early, and we expect that they'll be in full bloom on Mother's Day weekend. Hope you get a chance to come out and enjoy the Garden!
