Surrounded by a passenger port, sand castle and jaht port. Inside museum, art gallery, shops and a nice Majurska cafe. Always some events - next "Pietarilaiset markkinat" 18.-19.8.2018.

Had an early evening walk around the old fortress and found it to be both interesting and relaxing, good views out over the town dotted with history and interesting buildings now housing museums and restaurants.

The city is beautiful even in snow. At least it takes a day to walk around. In this season, the street is slippery because of snow & ice.

The museum has a good representation of the historical past. It is not large, however it contains good detail and has a few detailed models of respective town areas.

The Fortress is a historical place with a beautiful lanskape and a good view of harbour. A combination of nature and history. A place for enjoyable walks and relaxation.

This is an excellent place to come spend some time; walk around, have some coffee and basically just admire the view! Also many museums and history if you are interested. This is a must visit place in Lappeenranta!

We walked up the slope (past fairly standard C18th military earthworks) into the old fortress. It consists of a single cobbled road about 400-500m long with 30 or so old buildings dotted along with a variety of uses- some empty, some private, a cafe, museums,...More
