Eşrefoglu Mosque is a must see in Turkey not only because it's the biggest, best preserved wooden columned and roofed mosque in Islamic World but also its imam is an exemplary clergyman. We had the chance to visit the mosque with the guidance provided by...More

Stonework and tiles are what I am used to see with mosques. This one has wooden columns with beautiful red engraving. If you saw Ottoman, Arabic and Persion mosques, see a Seljuk one too, as it is worth seeing.

Wonderful stone exterior with ornate carved entrance. Interior has wooden columns with painted detail at top, and a flat wooden roof which is very unusual. Visit early in the morning to avoid the coach loads of tourist. No entrance fee but good to leave a...More

Amazing Mosque. A must see. Set in an area with the old Bedestan & Madrassa around it. Also some old style wooden buildings. One of only 2 mosques in the Anotilan area that has wooden pillars.

Stopped here while touring, beautiful mosque with wooden pillars and carvings worthy of a stop. Potentially unesco heritage site. We were able to talk to the imam which was fascinating. Make the trip and enjoy

A wooden interior older than most churches in the UK. The beautiful, intricate decoration is outstanding - no problem photographing and nice antique shop opposite with no inflated prices for foreigners.

This jewel of the Seljuk period has a presence many larger mosques lack. Outside, it is not as decorative as Divrigi Mosque near Sivas, but inside it is a wonder of cedar pillars and floors and ceilings 7 centuries old. It is on the list...More

This is a UNESCO site, and for good reason. The wooden pillars that hold the mosque together are in amazing condition, kept so, in part, by a water collection system that kept the pillars from deteriorating. The wooden ornaments and carpets are lovely and in...More
