About
The Château de Chantilly is one of the finest jewels in the crown of France’s cultural heritage. It is the work of a man with an extraordinary destiny: Henri d’Orléans, Duke of Aumale, son of the last King of France, Louis-Philippe. This prince, who is considered to be the greatest collector of his time, made Chantilly the showcase for his countless masterpieces and precious manuscripts.

- Katie HChattanooga, Tennessee16 contributionsChateau de Chantilly is beautiful and fascinating. We loved this chateau because there were very few people there. It is fascinating from a historical point of view, and beautiful from a purely esthetic point of view. The grounds are also really beautiful. We spent so much time in the chateau that we didn't have time to go to the stables, unfotunately. We did visit the cafe and had coffee and tea. Everyone there was very friendly and helpful.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten November 24, 2023
- KelseyPlymouth, United Kingdom49 contributionsBeautiful, huge castleWhat an incredible castle! We came twice as there was so much to see, all of which was worthwhile. The museum was breathtaking and interesting, especially surrounded by the beautiful Christmas decorations. We also enjoyed the whimsical gardens. My only small suggestion would be to update the signs for the seasons. Google and the signage at the stable said it opened at 10 when it was in fact 12, and tee didn’t know the toilets in the gardens were shut until we got there. Id highly recommend a visitVisited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten December 29, 2023
- Yllar64 contributionsExcellent visitA great castle, with nice architecture and a large art collection. Complete interiors as well as a valuable art collection are exhibited. The art collection makes up the majority of the exposition. There was also an excellent exhibition of furniture by André Charles Boulle during our visit. The audio guide was also good. The park is on a large territory, and to explore it, I recommend renting an electric car at the entrance gate. The park did not surprise visually with anything very special, but apparently on a guided tour, hearing explanations and stories, the tour there is significantly more exciting. We didn't go everywhere in the park and only stopped a few times to take pictures, but it took us 1 hour by car. NB! When renting an electric car, payment is made only by card and a deposit of €500 is taken, which was promised to be released within a week, it has been 6 days now and it is still deposited. Why do they have to hold onto the money for so long, what claims do they expect during the week (parking and speeding fines?). We didn't get to go to the stables NB! It is stated on the internet that the castle restaurant is open all day, but at 15:00 we couldn't eat there because the waiter said they were already closed.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten July 7, 2024
- Sara R24 contributionsIdeal for a family outingvery good experience. The castle is accessible from Chantilly train station by bus (beware however of signs on bus stops not always clear). The estate is very large and very impressive. The Award for one day is very reasonable as we were able to visit the castle, gardens, stables and attend the horse show (which was also very beautiful). We easily spend a day there and it is an ideal setting for a couple or family outing not far from Paris.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten July 17, 2024

We love castles and had Chantilly on our bucket list for a while. Really glad we finally got to visit it even if I prefer castles of a more human size and with a more subtle decoration. However, from a historical point of view, it was a very interesting visit. The part I preferred was the Great Stables and the Museum of the horse. The stables are huge and really impressive (and the horses gorgeous). The museum was really interesting and displayed items that I had never seen before (antique saddles and carriages among other things). Both the stables and the museum visits are included in the overall fee, and I recommend that you make some time to see them.

Get your audio guide at the entrance, it’s free! Bring earphones with a 3mm jack for a better experience.
We went late in the afternoon of February and the château was not crowded. It was really enjoyable and I did not get bored roaming around. We’ll have to go back to see the gardens, we didnt go because it was too cold. So make sure you bundle up if you want to explore outside.
The stables were so so, a fair enough attraction.
Highly recommended! Already planning to see this in the spring or summer for the gardens :)

One of the best chateaus to visit in France, located about an hour north of Paris, this chateau truly defines what a chateau is meant to be. Majestic layout and a lot to see, you would need to spend a few days here to see it all. The estate itself is massive and besides the chateau, there are outer buildings, the surrounding forest and trails, and the stables. The art collection itself is said to only be rivaled by that of the Louvre. Quite impressive display. The audio guide is available in several languages and does a great job taking you through the many rooms and art on exhibit throughout the chateau. Plan to spend the better part of a day here to at least see the chateau interior. There's a good sized gift shop on site and a restaurant as well. Parking is available just across from the chateau. If you come during the week, be prepared to compete with school groups at times for space in the rooms, or simply visit where the rooms where the classes aren't. Either way, plan to take your time and enjoy. There's a wealth of history and art to be seen and heard here.
If you're a member of the Amis du Louvre, or other groups/memberships, you can also attain a discount, so be sure to check and book ahead of time.

I enjoyed visiting this chateau more than Versailles for several reasons....less crowded, more to do, and most importantly this property has more cultural, historical, and artistic relevance. I learned a lot watching a movie they offer, located in the chapel inside the chateau, subtitles in English. I watched it before touring, which I recommend, about 12 minutes long. Be aware that the audio guide is downloaded to your phone so you need earbuds. I recommend downloading before you visit because my download so slow I was done before download complete. The walk from train station LONG, at least a mile one way, some shade. If you have mobility impaired guests, get taxi or drive. I ate lunch at the restaurant inside the chateau and enjoyed very much. I lived the Stag Room/dining room, perhaps my favorite. I was here 4 hours, could have spent more time. So glad I came, worth leaving Paris for!

The chateau has a very long history. Some parts are rebuilt or added at different times. The architecture is worth seeing and there is large collection of paintings in the chateau. The visit can take about 2 hours. Also you can enjoy the gardens. It's a smaller version of Versailles.
About the acces. There is a combined ticket including the entrance and train ticket for 25€. It's 25 minutes from Gare du Nord. The chateau is 2 km away from the Chantilly train station. There is a bus connection which isn't frequent. Walking through the town is also interesting.
Overall, Chantilly can be a nice excursion from Paris.

We loved it but the person at the entrance of the château was rude. We were having problem with WiFi and he didn't care. He was looking at his phone. I have a Turkish phone, my daughter American so there was no free Wifi as it's written and he didn't know the password. So we couldn't have the headphones for the visit. I prefer like Vaux Le Vicompte with real headphones for the foreigners who don't want to ruin themselves with the roaming Data usage. However, the guide for the private apartments was excellent. His name's Pol (Paul). We really enjoyed it. He also recommended the strawberry tart with chantilly cream at the farm café which is open till 6 pm. Other café restaurant is closed at 5h30 pm. We didn't have time for lunch but if you are late there's no savoury dish, only sweet.

Spectacular chateau and grounds with amazing art work at a reasonable entrance fee, however signage is very poor to the point that you are directed out towards the gate to view the horse museum only to find the gates locked and you have to walk back to the main gate which is quite a distance especially with young children. ( we were not the only ones !) Apart from that it is well worth a visit even on a wet day though we had great weather.

We rented a car from Paris to go. We spent a lot of time driving from downtown Paris just to find out that the parking lot did not take my credit card for a €5 payment. I tried both gates and it did not work. I pressed the “help” button in each and nobody answered. We had to drive back.

The Chateau de Chantilly is not exactly what it might appear... it looks to all intents and purposes as if it has stood for centuries, but in fact it's a late 19th century building, rebuilt after the original chateau was torn down during the French Revolution. Made more famous by the James Bond film "A View To A Kill", the building is a real beauty, and houses one of the finest art collections in France, including works by Raphael, Joshua Reynolds and Hans Holbein among others. Although we had a bit of rain, the walk round the expansive grounds was also a real treat, and the ticket also includes access to the wonderful stable complex on the edge of the town centre.
