The castle museum and tour are fantastic. Hospitality visitors big disappointment. Ginger tea,(little taste), black tea: got green tea. Ordered toast without ham on brown bread (it turned out to be white bread with ham). Then it was told that brown bread toast was only served as farmer's toast. Difference 4 euros more expensive. And there was onion stuffed in there. Cheese almost invisible and tasteless. No compensation by adding more cheese instead of the ham! See picture. Service was friendly and everything was answered with a smile, but that was it. So: do not use their catering industry.

The castle was built in the beginning of the 20thC by Jhr van Sypesteyn who was under the impression that a middle-age castle belonging to his ancestors had stood here. He wanted to recreate this. He had built up a fantastic collection including portraits, clocks, weapons and Dutch porcelain. The castle park is lovely and so peaceful. There is a cafe for a coffee or lunch. Weddings are regularly held in the atmospheric hall. You will have a guide who takes you round, its about an hour to see the castle and its collection. English guides are available, you can book a private tour by calling the castle in advance. This is well worth a trip out of Amsterdam or the other tourist centres.

Sypesteyn Castle Museum is dream castle of one man, built from recycled materials dating from 1500. It houses a collection of Dutch masters and many antiques. The garden is beautiful and we enjoyed lunch on the terrace, while a bride and groom were being photographed under a special tree, favoured as setting for weddings.
Just the right amount of historical Dutch culture, a walk in a park, and lunch on the castle terrace, made the perfect day out .

To preface, this is not actually a castle. It is a new construction built to house a personal family collection. Mostly this is porcelain from the area and some family paintings. Which, in my opinion, are not worth 15 eur per person to see. (For context, the Van Gogh museum is 5 eur more and Rijksmuseum costs 7 euros, Castle de Haar down the road is the same price and way better...) Tour took us about 20-30 minutes to go through the whole place including the grounds. We then tried the restaurant which is outside - it was cold and we asked if the heaters could be turned on, they said no. We ordered soup and they forgot to tell the kitchen, when we asked when it would be coming out they said the kitchen was closed. All in all, not worth a visit and money/time is better spent elsewhere.

Small castle with nice restaurant and great guided tour. Takes an hour but worth every minute. Located in a beautiful garden. Take the bike to get there.

Early 20 century copy of a medieval castle set in a nice park in Loosdrecht.
Good collection of local 18 century porcelain.
Special tours for kids, with secret passways and hidden rooms.

This castle isn't as old as you would expect it to be, well... at least the fundaments are old: they date from about 1500. But the castle as you see it today was built at the beginning of the 20th century. But the Junker who rebuild the castle with the original bricks, did this with flair and a lot of knowledge about Dutch history and architecture.
The tour through the castle takes about one hour and is very informative. You get to hear everything about the old nobel family of Sypesteyn, see familyportraits, porcelain, old furniture and art.
The garden really is lovely, do take a stroll through the orchard and enjoy all kinds of exotic trees.
Nice to know: the castle is also a weddinglocation!
