The castle was built in the beginning of the 20thC by Jhr van Sypesteyn who was under the impression that a middle-age castle belonging to his ancestors had stood here. He wanted to recreate this. Small castle with nice restaurant and great guided tour. Takes an hour but worth every minute. Located in a beautiful garden. Take the bike to get there.

Sypesteyn Castle Museum is dream castle of one man, built from recycled materials dating from 1500. It houses a collection of Dutch masters and many antiques. The garden is beautiful and we enjoyed lunch on the terrace, while a bride and groom were being photographed under a special tree, favoured as setting for weddings. This castle isn't as old as you would expect it to be, well... at least the fundaments are old: they date from about 1500. But the castle as you see it today was built at the beginning of the 20th century.But the Junker who rebuild the castle with the original bricks, did this with flair and a lot of knowledge... More
