The municipality borders both Russia and Finland. Geographically, we are as far east as St. Petersburg and Cairo! Russian signposts, Finnish language, Sami culture and the Barents Sea. There is so much to experience here in Kirkenes, you will go home a richer person. Visit the Frontier Museum, set sail on a king crab safari, visit the Andersgrotta cave, husky kennels, take a riverboat trip in the borderland etc. The Hurtigrute ships depart from Kirkenes daily all year round on their south-bound coastal voyage.Once a month, the square in Kirkenes centre is transformed into a lively market (normally the last Thursday in the month). The square is also home to the monument to war mothers, in memory of the efforts of women during World War II. For market dates, contact Tourist Information by telephone or visit our web site.

On a short stop, it was really useful to pick up maps and get advice on what to do. Also help with booking a boat trip to the Russian border.

Sorry but Street Map and the local sigage all pointed to an older location. Did see the library, largest in Scandinavia is suggested, a result of the large number of books donated after the war.

The richest tourism bureau containing information not only about Finnmark and the North of Norway but also on the bordering countries of Russia and Finland as well as the Sami region of Lapland (in between).

In this shop You will find the highest number of Souvenirs associated with Norway and Kirkenes. Magnets, maps, hats, clothing and much more. Unlikely to leave empty-handed. Despite the fact that working day was to 17.00, I was served at 17.30. The staff is fluent...More

Tried to visit but despite there being a man inside the door was locked. Lots of local items for sale in the large shopfront area but no access. Very disappointing.

Based on some fairly positive TripAdvisor reviews, we visited the "Kirkenes Tourist Office," only to find a souvenier and tourist clothing shop, and no tourist information! They want to make a sale, but not provide information...

This place has reasonable info, but as other reviewers have said, the guy there never got out of his chair, nor showed any proactive interest in people, which is not what a Tourist Office should be. Also unlike some of the good ones further south...More
