Road trip to Jowai from Guwahati to witness three falls (Krang Suri, Phe phe and tyrshi)
No words are enough to talk about the Meghalaya waterfalls, which are still pristine and less explored. If you are traveling this part of the country a bike ride is the most suitable option, as the roads are good and the environment is clean and clear. September is the best month to visit these waterfalls as the waterfalls have enough water and the weather is pleasant. in the majority of the waterfalls you can swim without many restrictions; however, be mindful of the risk factors.

    Nice and majestic falls
This is one of the most prominent and famous waterfalls of Meghalaya. From the base point, there is a 20 min trek to reach the waterfalls. There are other activities such as ziplining and boating available as well at extra charges. One can take a dip in the falls. Life Jackets are available for that. The water is so clear and pristine blue. There is a 50 rs entry free to the falls.

Wow What a place. Waterfall is very scenic and a sight to behold. Place has so many activities. ZIP Lines, Boating & Life Jackets if you want to take a Dip. there are two approaches to the fall and we approached from the back side and took advantage of ZIP Line. Please keep in Mind that steps could be tiring for elders. A must visit fall which usually runs for entire Year.

TRIP TO KRANGSURI AND DAWKI FROM SHILLONG
Ensure you're prepared to walk down from the parking area; unfortunately, it may not be accessible for wheelchair users or differently-abled individuals. However, the breathtaking falls await, boasting clear, sparkling water that's truly a sight to behold. Don't forget your swimwear if you plan to take a dip; there's a nominal fee for entry, but it's hardly a deterrent considering the experience you'll have. Aim to visit during seasons with minimal rainfall to fully appreciate the beauty. Opt for weekend travel from Shillong, as heavy trucks are restricted, ensuring a smoother journey

Must visit jowai and krang suri falls in west jantia hills. The emerald blue water is mesmerising. Though I could not take a dip in it as the water was icy cold in December.

If you are looking for some adventure and some fun than Krang Suri Waterfalls must be on your to do list. One of the few waterfalls in the area which offer you an opportunity to swim. The location is picturesque. However the travel time from Shillong is close to 3 hours and it is more or less a full day excursion. But the excursion is worth the time spent. The falls are amazing, the water is freezing cold and it was memorable experience to swim in the falls.

These are the waterfalls which you will always see when you search for Meghalaya. The falls can be reached after a long climb down from the parking but there is a view ping in between for those who don’t want to climb all the way. There is a small pond in the end where you can swim. We entered through the second entry for which you need to travel further after seeing the first entry board as that is closer to reach the falls. Not a lot of eating options here and public amenities were under construction.

Amazing view have to walk around 100 steps or so to reach there. We went thr with our 2 kids one 5 and other one 2 yr old. Just took more precautions as the walking area was a bit slippery and it's uneven/rocky once u reach the falls.

We went to Krang Suri falls end of September. Thankfully 3G worked and google maps was approximately accurate.

Once you get of the road, there is no sign of a waterfall. Fear not, walk up to the forest and look for a path of stairs.

Once you find it, follow it down. After 5 min, you get your first glimpse of this magnificent waterfall.

The trek down is 30 min and slippery due to the rain.

You reach the top of the falls, again don't walk on the top portion, it looks deceptively gentle.

You can walk down to the pool below the fall, it's this magical aquamarine blue.

When we went, there was nobody else around. Which we loved but do note it's in a desolate area and way into the hinterlands. If you not a local, i would recommend taking a local with you. Our driver and taxi, were from Assam and he was not too happy with us choosing to visit such a remote location.

The driver from Shillong took us approximately 3.5 hours.

Wear good shoes as the stairs can be slippery.

And if you have the heart, carry a big bag to collect the plastic garbage previous picnickers may have left behind. It's a shame really, to see garbage in this magical place.

I visited the Krang Shuri falls today i.e. 15th August '18 and was so eager to share my views. Some of the doubts that I had before visiting the place were:
1. Whether the road conditions will be good/motorable?
2. Whether the water would still be blue, considering the heavy rainfall during monsoons?
3. Whether we would get places to have lunch and what the price would be?
With these doubts and many more, I visited this place and my advice to everyone would be to go for it without a second thought. I elaborate my experience as below for all the future travellers:
1. Distance from Guwahati / Shillong : Distance from Guwahati will be approx 170 kms and from Shillong it would be approx 75 kms
2. Road condition : You travel on the National Highway for approx 130kms and State Highway for the rest. National highway is a 2 lane road (one side) and the road is too good. Hardly takes anytime. The State highway (right diversion from national highway) is also good till Jowai. From Jowai a stretch of 7 kms is quite narrow and has some potholes. After that stretch, the road is again very good.
3. Directions : If you are travelling from Guwahati directly, don't enter towards Shillong i.e don't take the right turn towards Umiam lake. Keep going towards Jowai. The lake is approx 30 kms from Jowai. From Shillong, don't come down to Umiam lake. Take the Jowai road. From Jowai, the signages for the Krangsuri falls are very clear.
4. Toll stops : There are 2 toll stations on the National highway. One after we enter Meghalaya (Rs 65 for one way for car) and another once we enter Jowai road (Rs 50 for one way car).
5. Point to be noted : A kuttcha road of 1.3 kms from the main road takes you to the parking lot of the Krangshuri falls.
6. Parking area and fees : Parking area is huge. No parking fees.
7. Entry fees and other fees : Entry fee for adults-Rs 40, Kids - Rs 20, Life jacket - Rs 30, Boat ride - Rs 100.
8. Details about the Kranshuri falls : From the parking lot one has to hike downhill for approx 8 minutes. There is a serene river that falls from a height and that's the Krangshuri falls. The river is so clear that one can see the bed of the river. They have built a small dam that controls the water flow from the falls and also provides a uniform depth for boating. The most unique thing about this waterfall is that the water appears to be blue and that's very attractive.
9. Changing rooms : 2 changing rooms for gents and 2 for ladies.
10. Restaurants: They have a small local restaurant at the parking lot and one near the falls. The one near the falls serves veg/chicken/pork thali. Veg -rs.150, non veg - rs 200. The water bottles cost 10 bucks and they keep a very small margin on other edibles.
11. Overnight stay : There are tents available near the falls, starting from Rs 700/- onwards. Dinner is served at the nearby restaurant. I nearly gave into that.
The Krangshuri falls is the most beautiful, I would say in India but as the drive is as beautiful as the falls. You drive on paths where on both sides of the roads are pine trees. There are rice fields which have turned yellowish green and overlooking them are the small hill mounds. The sight makes your jaws drop.
You will see plenty people fishing in the river near the roads. Many bikers throng the roads and since it was our Independence day, many were carrying our national flags. You can sit anywhere and claim that the the entire place is yours for there are very less houses and ppl.
My recommendation is to go for it. I enjoyed and will go again.
