An interesting historical site that was a mosque in its former life. It’s where the grave of Nawab Murshid Quli Khan (the first Nawab of Bengal) lies. Our guide walked us around and explained the history then showed us the earthquake damage that destroyed two of the domed roofs

I loved it. It has got a history to tell. ASI has maintained the place impeccably. Pay 20-50 to a guide to hear about it. read a little bit yourself if you want to filter out the exaggerations.
Currently it's being repaired in places. once it's done it will be even more beutiful.

It's a very nice place. Must take a local guide. They charge few bucks, but it will be worthy. It's a rare beauty where history will whisper in ur ears. Must visit once.

Katra means market. There used to be a vegetable market, I was told. This mosque was built in 1723 on the instructions of Nawab Murshidkuli Khan, in whose name the town is named as Murshidabad. The guide said that he was a Hindu Bramhin converted to Islam after he was bought and reared by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. This mosque suffered in an earthquake and lost its three domes. The mosque still displays its elegance. The grave of Nawab Murshidkuli Khan is situated here.

D mosque is splendid - both in beauty & historical value. U will see d magnificent work of those days. If u observe minutely u can see little terra-cota work in d middle of main work of this marvelous creation. We took a guide for 10/- to know d story of each & every wall of this mosque such as why there was terra-cota work, in which rooms d students would stay, why d tomb of Nawab Murshid Quli Khan was covered with net etc. Even those who r not much interested in history must visit this for it's serene beauty.

The truth of Murshid Kuli Khan and supporting historical evidence by the mosque and the temple. The architecture of the mosque having the place for prayer and the lighting and lodging arrangements for the students of that time is really interesting.
