The experience in the temple was good. Finished the darshan in roughly 1 hour.
However reaching the temple was a bit tedious for me. I had taken a bus from Tirupati which took 2 hours to reach Tiruthani bypass. There was a big traffic jam in Tiruthani town and to travel 4kms from Bypass to Tiruthani bus stand took an hour. There are bus services from near the bus stand to the temple which is located on the hill. We had to wait nearly 30 mins for this bus. When the bus came it was total chaos. Everyone simply rushed to get onto the bus (there was no queue system). The old ppl and children really struggled. The bus was pretty crowded. The journey to the temple took only 15-20 mins. However given the chaos on the way back we simply took an auto which cost Rs 120. Luckily the traffic jam had also cleared by then and so the return journey to Tirupati was smooth. There are trains to Tiruthani - so you can explore the same as well.

Thiruttani Murugan Temple, a famous Hindu temple is located in the town of Tiruttani, Tamil Nadu, India. (Thiruthani Hill, Thiruttani, Tamil Nadu 631209). The timings of this temple - 5.30am to 12.30pm, and 4pm to 8.30pm.
Thiruthani Murugan temple's Dravidian style architechture is so grandeur and beautiful. This temple is fifth of the six abodes of Lord Murugan ( Arubadai Veedu ). Lord Murugan's temple in a hill lock with beautiful view of city and the surrounding plantations. Tried the prasadam (snacks) from the temple counter. It was very old and stalled. I believe that is the one bad experience we had.

One of the Aarupadai Veedu, this Temple, Tiruttani, is situated in a hill top and is near to Chennai. I had walked through Trituttani Hill Road instead of climbing the steps, which I wanted to do. Had a good Darshan as the Temple was less crowded due to eclipse.

I thank LORD Muruga to make me visit his Abode at Thiruthani Temple on 20th Jan 2015. Thiruthani temple is on top of a hill 700ft above MSL. I travelled from Chennai.
Started early morning and reached Chennai central railway station. Took the Sapthagiri Express starting at 6:25 am. Being week day train had plenty of seats vacant. Paid the extra Rs.15/- above the normal ticket that I had purchased from counter. TTR promptly gave the receipt. It was scheduled to reach Thiruthani station by 7:50 but was late by 20 minutes.
Came out of Thiruthani station, had breakfast at "thattukada" (just outside the railway station). 5 Idlis and one vada just costs only Rs.20/-. Home made Idli and Vada with Chutney and sambar was very good. Being first time here enquired with the vendor. He suggested to walk to Thiruthani bus stand - 1 km away and take bus to Thiruthani temple (Rs.10/- fare for up and down trip by bus operated by Thiruthani Devaswam). Vehicles can go up to temple via ghat road. Autos charge about Rs.120/- plus for one way trip.
I wanted to walk the entire 365 steps to LORD Muruga's Abode. From the bus stand it is a straight road to the Saravana Poikai Tirukulam. (approx. half km from bus stand). Washed my hands and feet and started walking up the steps. There are shops/ places to keep your footwear. I walked up the steps and reached in about half an hour. Once I reached the temple prakaram, I went around and saw entrances - free entrance and another one with Rs.100/-. Even though it was not much crowded I decided to take the Rs.100/- ticket which some one told me that this entrance will take me very close to the Moolavar. (General or paid entrance everyone will get darshan very close by). But the advantage with the Rs.100/- ticket entrance is that I was able to go by the Dhwajasthambham, pray and also had Darshan of "Airavatham" standing very next and facing east (History about Airavatham gifted by Lord Indra to Lord Muruga can be read on various websites). Below the steps leading to Dhwajasthambham is Lord Muruga's Vel in a separate sanctum. Not much crowded on this day and had a very satisfactory and divine darshan multiple times. Lord Valli and Lord Deivanai have separate sanctums by the sides of Lord Muruga. There is Lord Shanmughar and Lord Aapath Sahaya Vinayagar on the Northern side of the temple. Breaking of the coconut taken as part of the Archana is done outside the main sanctum. Lord Durga, Lord Kumaresar and Lord Bhairavar are other deities inside this temple. At the prakaram you could see the prasadam stall. Lots of vendors are selling samosas and buttermilk at prakaram. From the prakaram, the view is panoramic at North and Eastern sides.
I started walking down the steps by around 11:45 am and reached railways station by 12:30 pm. Local trains are available every one hour from Thiruthani to Chennai. I took the train at 1:10 pm and reached Chennai central railway station around 3:30 pm.
I came to know that buses takes more time and hence I decided to take the train that was comfortable.

It is on the Chennai-Tirupati rail (& bus) line. It may take approximately 2.00-2.30 hrs by local train from Chennai. Near Tirutani bus stand, the temple authorities run buses to the temple which is situated at the top of a hill. Autos too are available to and from the temple. Private vehicles too are allowed.
It is one of the arupadai veedu temple of Lord Muruga as well as big one. Free and paid entries are available. When I visited I paid for Rs.150 entry, as the crowd was huge as it was an auspicious day. Amazing feeling while returning. Temple and near by are maintained clean, but the cleanliness little away from the temple, where people need to take bus or auto is not good.

Mar 2018 • Friends
I am fond of visiting hill temples by walk.
Tiruttani always eludes me as I keep visiting in wrong time or running out of time so that I was forced to go by car.
This time we determined to go by Walk
We started from chennai around 7 and reached adivaram by 10 AM including breakfast
If you are going by car and planning to walk on the hills, keep car near some good parking space and go to adivaram (footsteps starting point) by Auto as there is little space for parking near that place. Thank god.. We find a kalyana mantapam who has agreed us to park the car for 50 rupees. We happily parked and started walking
There are 365 steps.. Not written anywhere.. No roof or cover.. Very less shadow
I would recommend to start walking before 10 AM and get down before 11.. It will be hot
Its recommended that you climb the hills with bare foot though there is no written instructions
We two adults and 2 kids took 20 mins and we are able to climb the hills.. Easy to climb and everyone can walk. No restrooms on the way. Lot of shops sell pooja items
Beware of abhishem timings as darshan is closed and you have to wait. We reached hill top around 10:30 and had a faster darshan (in free darshan) in 25 mins overall
Great to see Lord Murugan and we recoup our energy
One of the most satisfying trip...
