Turano lake was a surprise discovery in between our trip from Pescara to Roma. The ambient is nice, clean and inviting to a relaxing short trip. There are a few villages around the lake and you feel so disconnected from the technology that even a short 3 days trip there made us relax more than 2 wholesaled weeks travelling in Venezia and Sardegna.

It was a last minute plan with my friend to go there for Ferragosto. Never heard of this place before - but damn it was a really good choice.

Had my first lake bath in here! The time spent was really relaxing & amazing. I super suggest to go here! But well you gotta be lucky to find a spot where there are less people & if you do - like what happened with us! You’ll have a great relaxing time in midst of nature with the lake on your side.

Around 1.5 hour from Rome, this artificial lake located in the province of Reiti. One can admire the landscape with tranquil and turquoise water of the lake.

At only 90 kms northeast of Rome lies the quaint town of Castel di Tora. It’s located in the Lazio region of Italy and in the province of Rieti. The town, which dates back to 1035, overlooks Lake Turano which takes its name from the same valley.

On the 22nd of July La Quiete opened in the quiet town of Pietraforte, just a few minutes drive uphill from the lake. Billed as a restaurant/pizzeria we stopped for a lunch on an intolerably hot day a week after their grand opening. As it was not quite one o'clock, the traditional lunchtime for this part of the world, we sat on the front terrace and had a few cool drinks. It's previous incarnation was also a restaurant and the present owners said they had to do little to reopen it as the interior was in excellent shape. In fact, once inside the dining room, it was cool and dim. The long wall was of natural stone with traditional copper kitchen utensils and a wooden ox yoke hung upsidedown on the wall. We ate the house antipasti, enough for four and we were just two light eaters! In addition to the traditional local cheeses and sliced, processed salumis, there was bruschetta, coratella, grilled eggplant and zucchini, and a basket of bread. We also ordered a mixed salad, which they made up to our request of greens, tomatoes, olives and onions. Very relaxing and well worth the price.
Pizzas are served in the evenings and the service was professional and friendly.

The drive to this area from SS4, the road from Rome to Rieti and beyond, is an easy one, with wider than usual roads. The lake is just beautiful, with a number of places to stop and enjoy the view. A don't miss if you're in central Italy.

Out of the many tours we did while in Italy this was by far the best one. Our guide Paolo went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time and treated us to a real Italian meal. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to get away from the crowds in Rome and see some of Italy's beautiful countryside and landscapes. So thanks again Paolo and we will definitely be back.

A fine non-touristic place at the Turano Lake, with clean water and watersport accomodation. Between Rieti and Carsoli. Some fine restaurants at Castel di Tora and Colle di Tora, Good bakery ('Forno a legna' - woodoven) and everything for fishing-sport at 'Tuttosport' at Castel di Tora on main street beside the lake.
