Don't drive in old town, park and walk
We loved our 2 nights in this beautiful town. Visit the tourism office to get a map with a walking tour. DO NOT try to drive into Old Town. Park at the Parking El Paseo / Parking Andalucia. Then walk or bus or taxi (if you have luggage). The streets are much skinnier than other towns. Also, the Plaza de Cabildo is under construction. Please have dinner at sunset at El Mirador de Isabel - amazing!

    Arcos, you won't be disappointed!
The Parador in Arcos by the Basilica is an amazing place to stay. There's so much history here it's crazy! I was blown away by the visit to the Basilica and just how much history is here in this tiny village. Views from the top are second to none. Wish I'd had more time here.

Exotic birds maltreated at the Mirador platform
If you care about animal welfare, be warned: at the top of this cool beautiful town, in a Mirador platform, part of a restaurant, there are a bunch of beautiful exotic birds all fastened tightly to a bar. Plus a raven desperately trying to escape it's short chain. If you see the owner (we did not) by all means register your feelings.

Of all the place we traveled through over two weeks in Andalusia, during January, this town was the most "closed for seasonal maintenance" of all. Stores, restaurants, tourist attractions... we barely got too see anything. The highlight was staying at the Parador, a beautiful hotel with a great view.

It is not clear on which date the article was published, but as of October 2022 Arcos de la Frontera is a neglected town that does not have a single wall that is not peeling and has green on it, very disappointing. A really unnecessary town to visit. If you want to visit a town with white houses and well-kept paths with flowers, Granada is the city for you. I came here following this article and was very disappointed. Tomorrow we are going to Gerzalma, I hope I will not be disappointed

The pretty town of Arcos de La Frontera has one big problem. Too many people want to get up to the tourist places by car or Motorbike. So the cute little streets are absolutely crowded with walking tourists and all sorts of vehicles, trying to find their way through Restaurants and Shops. No, we did not enjoy this place, yes it is beautiful but nowdays these towns should stop the cars right at the beginning. As in other places there should be times for locals to use cars but visitors should not be allowed to spoil places like this.

It is considered the beginning of the White Villages route and, of the ones I have visited so far, this is the one I like the most, especially in terms of heritage.
The location is beautiful, from the river dam it looks beautiful placed on top of the hill, and once inside it has a lot of things to visit.
The streets are beautiful, narrow, with typical Andalusian architecture and white houses.
We found the Plaza del Cabildo completely raised by the works and the Basilica of Santa Maria closed, but we still enjoyed the visit.
The Basilica is beautiful even if we only saw it from the outside, the tower is amazing and its curiosity is a "magic circle" of Arab origin; then the Abades viewpoint, behind the Church of San Pedro, where there are beautiful views and a very romantic arch.
A little late, after 5:30-6:00 p.m., the Mayorazgo Palace and the Church of San Pedro open and can be visited, both buildings are beautiful.

Finally, know that there is a tourist train that if for whatever reason your strength is weak or the elderly or children need it, there is a tourist train that saves you from climbing the slopes from the parking area to the Plaza del Cabildo.

Surprise only by seeing where its Old Town is located, on top of a cut rock, where its Magnificent Basilica, its beautiful Church of San Pedro and the beautiful Parador stand out. Well maintained, clean, whitewashed, its variety of stately homes, lodgings and restaurants invite a hard walk along its hills and alleys. Viewpoints, Promenade next to the Guadalete, and calleje whet your appetite to its cuisine of Cadiz.

Really nice place to visit. We went here in the afternoon and parked the car at the bottom and walked up to the church at the top, nice walk, quite hilly but okay if you stop every now and then to admire the view and the lovely white washed houses. Once at the top you get a lovely view of the valley below and of the church so worth getting to the top. There are lots of lovely little restaurants to eat in, would have liked to have spent longer exploring the place.

We left the car near the bus station and there we took a minibus that could not even be found in the most remote Africa. An experience, although I think they scammed us for charging us.
The town is very beautiful, with some wonderful viewpoints.

Awful. Bad organization, if there is not a minimum of 20 people you cannot catch it because it does not come out. Rude, they don't answer the phone. The route isn't that big either. They are basically scoundrels who profit from older people who cannot go up to the old town. It costs 2.50. Better to call the taxi service which costs €2 between 4.

During our stay in Cadiz, we organised a full day out to drive and explore the white towns and villages of Andalucia. Acros de La Frontera is a lovely attractive town, it is quite a walk up the hill to the church but worth it for the views from the top. The white washed houses along their cobbled lanes and roads are delightful.

During the night they go to clean the streets with very noisy vans with brushes, it took them 1 and a half hours to clean 100 meters of road under my accommodation. I didn't want to believe it, there were workers on foot who were taking down the posters from the walls while the vehicle remained with the engine running the entire time. I strongly advise against staying in the centre.
