The castle itself is already nice to visit from outside. The park area leading up to it as well as around it, is nicely arranged and worth seeing.
Inside you have an exhibition, mostly about local artist Albin Egger-Lienz, which isn't huge, but actually very interesting and engaging. Supposedly they also keep changing aspects and pieces, so you can discover new info if you come again later. Additionally they display a few different artists as well and there is a small part about bats. All in all really nice.

A trip to Lienz should certainly include a visit to Bruck Castle (Schloss Bruck). Especially more so for history and culture buffs!
The castle is located on the West side of Lienz and is approx. 15 minutes walk from Lienz town centre. It can be viewed from pretty much anywhere in Lienz due to it's elevated location and is also floodlit at night.
The castle grounds are quiet and well maintained with floral decorations and trails. There is also a very picturesque small lake behind the castle.
The castle itself is the home of the Lienz Museum and works from regional artists can be seen here in a serious of different galleries within the castle. The most famous work is from the local artist Albin Egger Lienz who's work is regularly on display here. Most work is very traditional, dark and reflects difficult times from the past. In other galleries more modern work is occasionally to be seen.
It's well worth visiting the museum to experience the castle building itself which feels authentic and old - just like a castle should. The views from the top are also well worth the entrance fee.
Down below is a courtyard and a pleasant cafe with splendid views over Lienz.
Overall well worth a visit, especially if you want to experience more about the history of the region of Lienz and East Tyrol. But also a pleasant excursion for relaxation and romantic photo opportunities. Also a bad weather option.

It was not what we expected. Personally found the artist to be dark and depressing. No photography is allowed and charged 7.50Euros per person.

The museum makes the most of a great location which is situated right off the city center of Lienz. The home of Albin Egger-Lienz's works are set across the entire building with other rotating artists. The building is wonderfully upkept and the chapel is a real highlight too! Don't miss this rarity in the hills here.

A very nice place to learn history, enjoy a bird eye view of the city and visit the art exhibits. There is also a cafe on the site.

We walked from the city centre along the river to this hillside fortress. It felt incredibly old and atmospheric especially with the dour paintings of Albin Egger-Lienz. Sadly there were few other visitors but in a way that made it more special for us.

Displays that we saw were very varied and some very unusual to downright weird (models of nude hanging men from a joint scaffold).
It was a very humid and thundery day and the temperature inside the museum soared and was totally airless which made it a bit hard to really appreciate it.
Certainly when we went there some very strange sculptures and work and definitely not what I would be taking children to see.
Yet on the top floor some stunning nature photography that absolutely made the day.
Wish it had been on the ground floor!
Small restaurant on ground floor but very small selection of panini based food. You would do much better to go back into the town and eat in the main square as we did.

Well preserved castle architecture, which has been restored and updated to make exhibition space. The medieval chapel frescoes were superb. The Egger-Lienz paintings were well displayed with useful information - for those with no German, there was an English leaflet. We enjoyed the film and special exhibition on sculptor Jos Pirkner. The cafe is in a fantastic location on the terrace and the inner courtyard. And when my son left his orthodontic braces behind, we emailed the following day and a member of staff kindly searched the bins and found them for us!

Bruck is well preserved, & if you are in Lienz it merits a visit. It does not have a guided tour and is not really geared toward non-German speakers. Nevertheless, if you want to see a nice castle in the Tyrol, go to Bruck.

This is fortress of the counts of Gorz presides over Lienz. It’s about a 15 - 20 minute walk from the old town, and most of the walk can be done along the river. We did not visit the museum as we went after hours. We strolled around the castle ground and got to see the castle from the outside.

Buonasera; passeremo da Lienz Domenica prossima e volevo sapere se il castello fosse aperto di Domenica, il costo del biglietto e se fosse accessibile almeno in gran parte in carrozzina a rotelle. Grazie. Stefano C.
