The location of the hotel is very central. The room has a pleasant size and is well furnished and clean - unfortunately the heat (mid-July) in the room was very uncomfortable, even the fan was unfortunately only moderately helpful. Staff were friendly and helpful. Very much enjoyed being able to take breakfast on the balcony (great view of the main square of Lienz).

In the middle of the old town is Lienz's main square. The 17th century Liebburg Castle stands prominently there, and with its onion domes it is one of the most popular photo motifs in the city.

But what is even more striking is the unusual planting. A large number of palm trees bring a Mediterranean touch to the square. "We are on the south side of the Alps and in summer it is very warm in the Lienz Basin. The capital of East Tyrol lies at the foot of the Lienz Dolomites and is the city with the most hours of sunshine in all of Austria.

In summer the well-kept old town becomes pedestrianised.
Since the 13th century, the Bruck Castle, now the Civic Museum, has dominated it.
The other noble residence Castel Liebburg, with its two imposing towers with characteristic bulbous bell towers, is located on Hauptplatz, Lienz's main square, and serves as a town hall

After 43 km by bike we arrived in this picturesque Tyrolean town. Very nice and clean old town, adorned with colorful flowers. The town hall building with the two towers is beautiful. Then there are pizzeria bars and shops. We visit the church of San Martino which is at the bottom, very pretty.

Today we made the trip to Lienz for their annual Christmas Market. A small market but nice to visit. You can buy food, gifts and of course the beautiful GLUHWEIN. This is where it can get confusing if you are not a local!!! The mugs you drink the gluhwein from are coloured differently and cost from €2.80 upwards to have gluhwein but if you want to keep the mug you pay an additional upwards of €2.50. So we paid €5.30 at one stall for mug with gluhwein and then at another stall €3.20 plus a further €4 to keep the mug = €7.20. Buyer beware at this stall, they sell the spare ribs to eat or bratwurst and you are treated badly by the rude younger lady who works there as she took the mugs out of my daughters hand and told us that we couldn't keep them. We had moved to another stall to get some soup for another daughter and she came over to us.We told her we had paid for one and she said we needed a ticket which we hadn't been given. She was rude and abrupt and clearly does not like or want tourists visiting Lienz Christmas Market so my advice is leave the market to the locals, they understand. Advice to organisers if you want tourists put some signage up explaining clearly the costs of mugs and how to purchase them and make it the same price throughout. There are other stalls who are really nice especially the stall selling hot potatoes and dark blue mugs. Very friendly people who are so busy. Visit them if you are there but keep away from the Rib stall. We have been to other Christmas markets including Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Nuremberg and Brunico. All absolutely lovely and welcoming to locals and tourists. No confusion at these markets. Visit them if you are close by in December.

A nice little square with some shops and cafes. It is nice to sit in one of those cafes and have a cup of coffee while watching people walking here and there.

Very charming location. The atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant, and one feels safe. Many restaurants nearby. Regular events (e.g., concerts) are arranged.
