Rather than pay exhorbitant prices for an "all inclusive excursion", we went to the pier and hired a long boat and driver for the day for a third of the price (including our taxi to the pier, drinks & lunch) that we would have paid on a more commercial boat.

This is a quiet ok place!
But the tidewater is really significant and half of the pier is on land almonds…
So better to be here when it’s high water!

You can hire your own private long tail boat from opposite the pier for around 5,000 baht for the entire day.

It's well worth doing and you will be in very safe hands and away from the hordes.

We hired ours from a nice reggae loving guy called Sunshine cokecoke. You can find him on Facebook and Google using that name.

We started at around 8:30am and were back around 4pm.

We were two adults and two kids - five and eight - and were very well looked after. They included some bottles of water and some fresh pineapple to keep us going. Otherwise it's self-catering.

Some of the islands have places where you can buy food. Rang Yai has a restaurant which takes credit cards too if you're strapped for cash.

The boat operators have a set tour but are completely happy to change it to suit you. We skipped James Bond island and asked for some clear water to do snorkeling. They supplied masks and snorkels.

nice boats/sailing shop.
the marina itself hosts lost of beautiful boats.
there is a restaurant with very firendly staff and great breakfast selection; we arrived early in the morning (before opening hours) and they opened the terrace for us.

We took a trip from Ao Po Pier and did not find the area really exciting, but we did not get around enough to judge

This place is very nice for boat rides. But one must negotiate long before they board the boat. This is a must

Stopped in for a drink while waiting for our boat to Phi Phi Ko Island. Nice atmosphere and service. Had a wonderful Negroni and Espresso Martini along with a fruit plate . Wish we had more time for lunch, because seemed like a nice meal.

This Pier is the boarding point for all the major points for travel for the 5 or 6 island around the Phuket- named - Naka Island, Lawa Island, Panak Island, Hong Island and James Bond Island. There are various boat agency running the tour from here. You can buy the tickets on the spot or you can get it done through your local travel operator.

We went to Ao Po Grand Marina a very nice space where seems to be the main dockyard for the yatchs in the Island.
We took a catamaran for a tour to phang Nga bay.
The visit was fantastic, views amazing, spectacular nature... however the catamaran was filthy, dirty and even though looked in good shape, it was dirty and smelly, full of flies.
In case someone would like to take the catamaran there, please check on conditions first as you can end up in a hole full of flies with a very unique odor form the toilets.

Cheers,
