Parque Nacional de Itatiaia is divided in 2 areas: the lower part and the higher part. The high part of the park is located 60 kilometers from Itatiaia and there is no public transport to go there. I contacted Levy Cardozo (Levy Ecologico)- mobile number: +55 24 99 90 75 167. email:levy.ecologico@hotmail.com. He is professional, knows his turf and very... More

The top of Rio State - if you get there on a sunny day that is how you feel. No one around except for friends with you. Just as Rio was before humans came to spoil the Atlantic Forest. Plan your trip though, because it is not always open, due to weather risks and requires a guide.

The Pico das Agulhas Negras is at 2791m the highest place in the state of Rio de Janeiro. While we didn't make it to the top, we drove to a height of about 2350m where one has a spectacular view of the surrounding. To get there (above the tree line) take BR-354 in the direction of Itamonte leaving the Dutra... More

The sight is outstanding, and the epoch to visit is the April -October period where chances for extended rains are slim. Book one of the adjourning Pousadas near the upper entrance of the Parque das Agulhas Negras. It is some 40 km from the Garganta do Registro ( a cross-road where the regular asphalt ends in the BR-354). It is... More
