We visited Gourdon during the medieval festivals held annually on the 1st Sunday of August and the following Monday. Many activities with medieval crafts, performances and a very nice horse show with knights and battles. This year there was a different horse group than last year so the show was different again.

My husband and I hired a private driver to take us to Gourdon, Vence and St. Paul de Vence in the French Riviera…."Philip" was hired by "Travel Bound" and was our driver and tour guide on June 16th and 17th….He was EXCELLENT!….very professional, knowledgeable, and courteous.
He showed us three amazing towns which was the highlight of a four week vacation…..

Gourdon came up on a search of local french travel blogs, only now did I realise there were other tripadvisor reviews about it. We drove here after a morning visiting a perfumerie in Grasse, and followed the blogger's advice to have lunch at the Auberge opposite the free carpark before walking up to the Gourdon village. The drive up was magnificent, gorgeous view of the village perched on the mountain. It's quite touristy, as you'll notice with all the usual shops selling sweets and lavander and soaps and souvenirs. But there are beautiful alleys and corners, trees flowering in amazing small spaces, full of character and surprises (spot the little stone boy playing the flute on a windowsill). After wondering around, walk back towards the entrance, as you exit on your right there are free public toilets, and a signpost of some walkways, one of which is named "Chemin de paradis", Path to paradise. As you walk on down the steps you will see stunning views, our five year old walked without trouble, we went about fifteen to twenty minutes down, then back up again as it was getting hot in the afternoon sun. Apparently you can walk much further along, ask for the simple walking brochure at the little tourist office in the village. Great photos and great memories and a wonderful intro to the Gorges du Loups.

The drive up to Gourdon is winding but much easier than say travelling to St Paul de Vence. Much wider road and beautiful views along the way. We parked at the bottom opposite a restaurant and walked up. There is another car park further up. The town itself it a beautiful medieval one with quaint narrow winding streets. There are a number of shops all for tourists selling mostly perfumed soaps, bath salts and lavender. There are a few coffee shops and restaurants. Most of the latter were closed as we were there quite early. You can walk up to the top of the town to the observation point where you have breathtaking views of the surrounding area. There are helpful signs which show local landmarks.
I would really encourage you to visit Gourdon. You won't need long just an hour or so. But get there as early as possible as I fear it gets incredibly busy. We left at around 11am and the crowd was beginning to grow. I would also think the drive up will be more difficult the later you go. Highly recommend.

Our guidebook set lowish expectations for a visit to Gourdon, suggesting that it had a great view, but little else. Not so. Gourdon is a tiny, charming medieval village with perfume and soap shops in abundance, well worth a stroll through its narrow streets.
And yes, the view down to the Med is stunning.

Gourdon is a small village on the top of a mountain in what are called Préalpes Nice. It is a wonderful place, with wonderful views of the valley and around Nice and the Alpes Maritimes. Worth the winding road. The road is very good

A little off the beaten track from the coast but still not far. Head for Opio first and take a look at one of the oldest working olive mills in the region, the Moulin d'Opio, and then head upwards, for the pretty little medieval hilltop town of Gourdon. Have lunch outside at the Taverne Provençal, with its stunning views from Beaulieu to Cannes and beyond- on a clear day you can see Corsica clearly. If you are lucky there will be paragliders up there- they are hundreds of feet up in the air- but you are eye level with them- its a strange feeling. Look for Roger in his little shop, he plays the most beautiful music and his cd's are for sale, and buy some local soaps and perfumes and honey while you are there. Gourdon never feels horribly touristy, and the shop owners are all very friendly.
I love it!

Gourdon is one of the most beautiful villages in southern France and well worth a visit. But be warned, there are two Gourdons in France and neither is close to the other. If you want to book a hotel in or near Gourdon, BE SURE you are booking in the right village. I thought i was and made a mistake. The man at the tourist office told me that it happens quite often. Otherwise, Gourdon is beautiful as is the village of Tourrettes-sur-loup nearby.

A mideval village on the hills. The place is small but unique. The view is stunning. all the coastal plain as well as the town steep below the cliff is at your fingertips. The atmosphere is very nice. In December it was very quite.

Au départ de Peymeinade est ce que les routes ne sont pas dangereuse ?

La ruta para llegar desde Saint Paul de Vence es de montaña. Y hacia Grasse también es de bastante altura. Es para conducir cuidadosamente. Saludos y buen viaje
