The views in Samaria Gorge were nothing less than impressive but you really need to have proper walking shoes with you. It's extremely rocky all the way along and quite steep in parts (especially the beginning). It's an 18km hike starting in the mountain all...More

Go! We were in a rush to beat the rain and catch the boat, but ended up going much faster then we meant to and discovering at the end that we were late enough in the season that the earlier boat no longer ran. Oops!

Well worth it! Poles, hat and good shoes are a must to enjoy this memorable experience. The beach at Agia Roumeli at the end of the hike is a great way to relax and reward yourself after the long trek down.

We are planning to take the public bus from Paleochora to Omalos in the morning. If I understand it right the entry to the gorge is in Xyloskalo about 4-5km away. What is the best way to get from the bus stop in Omalos to the entry of the Samaria Gorge?
