The Abbey of Beaulieu-en-Rouergue was founded in the 12th century and was extended in the 17th and 18th century. It was partly demolished after the Revolution but was fortunately saved and restored in the 1960s. The 13th century church, chapter house and cellar form an excellent example of Cistercian architecture. Since 1970, the Abbey of Beaulieu-en-Rouergue has housed the Contemporary Art Centre with a fine collection and temporary exhibitions. Open: > 1st April to 31st October: from 10 a.m. to noon and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. > 2nd November to 31st March: upon appointment. Last admission 45 minutes before closing time. Closed: > Tuesdays (except in July and August), from 1st April to 31st October. > 1st January, 1st May, 1st November, 11th November and 25th December. Admission fees: Adults : 5,50 €; Concessions (18 to 25) = 4 €; Free admission: minors under 18*; Free admission: 18-25 years old* (citizens of one of the 27 countries of the EU or are non-European permanent residents of France) * excluding school groups

Magnificent Cistercian former Abbaye off the beaten path. Home to a fine contemporary art gallery. Modest but lovely grounds, including a river-pond.

Very interesting. Fantastic acoustics in the main church. Art exhibition was on, maybe it always is, some obscure stuff. Saw a lizard catch a wasp, but I doubt that happens every day.

Cistersian Abbaye close to St Antonin Noble Val and Caylus in South-West France, the amazing set of buildings has been saved from demolition by a famous French writter and later, painfully restaured by private arts collectors. Contemporary arts exhibitions (painting and sculpture) of great quality...More

A lovely abbey, arts centre and grounds we have now visited several times. The snowdrop walk in spring is delightful, but the real magic for us is in summer when the stream below the abbey is thronged with electric blue and red-brown dragonflies and damselflies....More

We visited the photo exhibition and the abbey. It's a place that has a certain attraction for its beautiful architecture and silence.

A well-preserved abbey that shows what English abbeys would have looked like before Henry VIII got his hands on them. Lacks the romanticism that goes with a ruined church, but interesting none the less.

A lovely old abbey building which houses changing art exhibitions. When we went there was a really good exhibition of photographs and items representing the first men. There were also some other photographs which I was not so keen on. The building is lovely and...More

The Abbey is well placed to spend an afternoon, take a walk through the surrounding fields and enjoy the exhibits which change regularly. It is a peaceful and pleasant place with a unique history.

Magnificent place. Sometimes very eclectic exhibitions. Also, sometimes have musical evenings in the summer with dinner in the courtyard afterwards. Worth a visit.
