Interesting archaeological site. It's not an easily reachable place though as it's far away from everything. It's close to Punta Sam which is north of Cancun. To get there, you'll need to take a cab, or a series of buses, and to return to the city centre there's a "coletivo" stop right across the sidewalk. To visit the site, you'll need 2-4 hours, but it's not a busy place. The site is medium-sized, and it has more shadows than the El Rey site. The visit is more pleasant in the early hours of the morning. It's also a quiet place full of iguanas. It's a very relaxing kind of place. It's definitely worth a visit as it was also an important trading post during the Mayas.

A must see if you’re in the area! Only $55 pesos for an adult and kids were free. Beautiful grounds with big trees and ruins were in great shape. Nice mix of sunny spots and tree cover for hot days. Was very glad we went! It was a great way to show my kids the archeological ruins at an affordable price as they were done looking around after an hour. Lol.

Very cool to see and the person at the entrance was very friendly and made us welcome. They are just off the side of the road and we walked down there from the Punta Sam ferry area without much of a problem other than some sore feet. The iguanas are allowed to climb on the ruins but humans are not. Well worth the visit. At this time is was 55 pesos a person.

We recently stayed in Hotel Row in Cancun and walked 35 minutes to visit these ruins, located just off the main road. El Meco is a small Mayan Archaeological site that is open to the public. Admission was 30 pesos (approx. $5). The site is well preserved and worth a visit, consisting of approximately 14 separate buildings dating back to 600 AD. There are kiosks that explain what each of the remains used to look like and their guess as to what they may have been used for. It is located 1 block off the main road to Punta Sam past the docks at Puerto Juarez. A local bus/van will drop you if you ask. If you want to visit Mayan ruins and don't want to pay the big bucks and 14 hours of your day to visit the more famous Chichen Itza, this is for you!

These Mayen ruins are not that famous as Chichen Itzá, however you will not regret to come to see that. Just save an hour of your time and you will be nicely surprised. The entrance fee is only 55 Mexican pesos (2,50 USD). The ruins are well preserved, located in a middle of wild but greatly kept nature. We met just a few people there and lots of iguanas which are relaxing on the stones everywhere. Very friendly staff as well.
