Point Sur lighthouse is located on a huge rock located on the Pacific Ocean just about 45 minutes south of Carmel and just a little north of Big Sur. Coming from Carmel, you come around a curve on Hwy 1 and get your first glimpse of the rock and of the lighthouse beacon. Tours are led twice a day in... More

they only have tours a few times per week so plan ahead and arrive early as they only take the 1st 40 people. the tour is 3 hours and walks you up the hill to the lighthouse and other buildings. I might add that it is quite a steep hill so wear comfortable shoes and dress in layers as it... More

It was a real treat being able to go to the Lighthouse. The tours are limited in time and the amount of people. The tours are run by volunteers who do a wonderful job. It is a walking tour up the side Point Sur to the lighthouse and structures at the top. Lots of history!

This is a great 3 hour tour of the lighthouse and associated buildings but it does get windy on the rock so wrap up even on a warm sunny day. We found the meeting point but there was some confusion about who was there first (max 40 admitted per tour) - we would advise you to park on the right... More

It can be cold and blustery and it is a steep hike, but the lighthouse is worth it. I've walked up it a couple of times and done it with kids so not too bad. Stay away from the edge dammit!

I enjoyed Big Sur back in the past. But, then, I am from the past. The beach is pretty to see but colder than Southern California or Mexico and a bit rockier for sailing. But, the fact that there are places to stay so you can walk around is great! Just taking a picture out the car window as you... More

Sitting on a tall rock formation is one of the original light houses along the California Central Coast. Recently refurbished to its historical form, the light house and related buildings are a marvel. The spot is among the most beautiful in the Big Sur area. The climb to the top is manageable. The guides are first rate and extremely knowledgeable.... More

The lighthouse sure is in a neat setting standing tall on a rather large boulder/small mountain, with grazing cows in the foreground and the Pacific Oceans waves in the background. There surely are amazing views in the area!! This area was the first time I ever saw a double rainbow over the ocean. Quite beautiful! No question it's worth a... More

We stopped along Highway 1 several times, both southbound and northbound, to take photos of the lighthouse and the coastline here. Fascinating and awe inspiring!
