Arrived late afternoon on New Year's Day so only time for the Headlands Trail from the parking lot (no stream crossing necessary) to the bluffs above the beach. First down some steps then across the meadow with campsites, then through the grove of trees, then up some steps to the top of a ridge to see a beautiful view on... More

If you're looking for a Big Sur dramatic beach, this one is lovely but more understated. There is also a mile walk from parking to the beach. It's not a hard walk -- almost entirely flat -- but it's not particularly scenic; it goes through a big meadow used by overnight campers, and then through brush and woods next to... More

Pleasant trail from Highway 1 goes through some open land, then leads down through a grove of Eucalyptus trees and tends near the mouth of the Big Sur River. Great views from the headlands and various points along the shoreline.

Moderate to Strenuous but a great hike overall. We have done this hike 3 times now and the scenery is breathtaking. This last visit, while on the Bluffs Trail we witnessed a few dolphins at play. The views of the ocean is an awesome sight. Andrew Molera is an 8 mile loop but with the inclines, switchbacks and hills it... More

Walked the coast trail from parking to ocean, one mile each way. Pretty sunny heading out to beach , but groves of trees here and there. Very windy the day we went. The beach itself is not so great, but the trail is easy and flat and wel maintained. There are other trails as well. Lots of people on the... More

Loved this spot. Great hiking! Awesome views! Peaceful atmosphere! The trek from your car to the campsite is not far, but it is not close, I would say its about 500-750 yards away less than 5 min walk. I camped here in August 2014.

More open spaces and fields, a bay beach, but this is a fine place for a hike, a short or long one, you choose the path.

Be aware that the Sobranes Fire has led to the closure of all state parks in Big Sur this week, possibly until the end of August so check on the website before you travel. A huge pall of smoke is hanging over the hills obscuring the view, many outlooks are closed as they are occupied with fire fighting trucks and... More
