We took a tram from the Monterey side of Highway 1 to the park. Then we hiked up a brutal (for me 😀) newly erected 500 foot elevation trail to get to the Big Sur side of Highway 1. I hated my tour guide cousin...More

We were excited to stay in the Big Sur area despite the issues with the roads being washed away. We planned our trip and scheduled a date to camp in Big Sur Campground in the state park. This is a very large campground. There were...More

We have been many places and I always tell people that Highway 1 is the prettiest. The drive is gorgeous and the views are amazing. You have to experience this for yourself!

It was a beautiful day to visit Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, so I'm glad we made the trip from Monterey. Much of the park was closed, but what we saw was so worthwhile. Would love to come back again when the park is back...More

If you are not staying at this park you must either pay $10 to park on-site or park on highway 1 on the side of the road for free. Second, walk to campsite #31 and you will see signs for the hike. 36.241512, -121.773426 Third,...More

Here are some pictures of the Community Bypass Trail that starts at campsite #31 and ends on the Highway just south of the bridge construction. It's a very pretty hike. Half a mile long, and all uphill. Not difficult, but be prepared for some exercise.

Due to the damage sustained from the last winter season, many areas of the park are closed off. We drove down from Monterey and stopped by for an impromptu visit. There were 3 trails open per the park ranger. Two of the trails ran parallel...More

Fun place to explore. There are two short walks that allow dogs and the parking fee also covers parking for point lobos (no dogs allowed) Sadly, there was a rock slide that closed many points of the park so we were unable to go to...More

We spent the night at Big Sur and lined to go on a hike. Only few trails are open now. It was nice to take a walk there

I would call the lodge. I doubt if the park is open but you could picnic nearby. The coast near Carmel is beautiful and not as difficult to reach as Big Sur.

I don't think hiking boots are necessary. I had my trail runners they were more than enough.
