After doing the whole PCH from San Fran to San Diego, this part by far the MOST scenic. The web blogs and tour books cannot say enough about how AWESOME some of the sights you will see on one of the most scenic drives in this country – and we have done several. There are some unreal coastal photo ops... More

A great and somewhat challenging drive in parts takes you along this beautiful stretch of highway. There are a number of veiwing points but aim to stop at Bixby bridge which is great. The weather can affect the view. Our trip along the highway was dogged by sea mist. There are some restaurants along the way should you wish to... More

Great detour from Bixby bridge. AWD recommended but not required when it's dry. Great nature and scenic views.

We drove from Los Angeles to San Francisco and took the Pacific Coast Highway. The drive through Big Sur was spectacular. We stopped as often as we could to take photos (which never do it justice). We also were able to feed a family of squirrels along the way, which we later found out are considered vermin in the US?!... More

There are a couple of reviews that are NOT of this road. This is the old, dirt-only road. It was a tough, long ride for me, but I'm the nervous one. Personally, I hated it and have never wanted off a road so badly in my life. Close to the cliff, no barriers, ruts from small to very deep, no... More

this was a great trip. we started on the North end of the trail. There was a sign that said Impassable when wet and it was absolutely poring with rain. being that i had a 4x4 i wasnt worried, so off we went. you climb up a bit first and when you look back you have an awesome view of... More

Turn off to the left going south just before Bigbie bridge. The entrance to this dirt road is poorly marked (on purpose?). A long 11.5 mile drive on rough terrain through the heart of the El Sur ranch. Not for the faint hearted. The road is narrow, pitted and muddy in places. But you drive through every conceivable landscape with... More

This scenic gem starts just before the north side of Bixby bridge and quickly goes up hill from there! You start with great views of Bixby bridge from the back (the first 1/4 mile of this road is great for pics of the bridge with a turn around area up top), then quickly descend into a single lane through a... First let me acknowledge that it's an El Niño year, only 24 hours after serious rain, and I drove it in a Prius. Even under these conditions it's possible to make the drive but I wouldn't advise it … any one of 50 things could have gone wrong and I'd have been stranded in the middle of nowhere. Having done... This is part of the historic dirt road that led south down the coast before Bixby Bridge and other bridges were built in the 1930's. Over the course of 11.4 miles, there are areas with steep switchbacks, dark redwood groves, pastures, ocean vistas, great views of Pico Blanco, the El Sur Ranch, Bixby Bridge, and more. Today, only the occasional... More
