Great place to buy a book, read, have some tea, relax, talk with people, and take in the slower pace. They sometimes host concerts, film nights, and cultural events too! I've been to Big Sur twice, and we visited this place at least twice each time.

Just overhearing the conversations that go on in this store is worth the stop. I heard an in-depth analysis of the types of mushrooms one could forage for in the vicinity. You don't hear that every day. Very laid-back types hanging about, loads of quirky art in the garden, two friendly cats that rub your legs, tons of great books... More

Maybe quirky is a better description than offbeat but you will find the writers of the Beat Generation well represented here. Peculiar art installations line the walk from the parking lot off the PCH and the staff is friendly and helpful. We picked up a CD of local music and a Jack Kerouac play. Definitely worth pulling over for.

The library was smaller than I expected, more like a tiny little bookstore with some cool mid-century memorabilia and funky art around the grounds.

Nice place to stop and stretch your legs. Many books to peruse and buy if you choose ( I'm a poet, don't ya note it; make a rhyme every time). Quirky art on premises. The day we visited there were no special events going on.

We stumbled upon this off the no1 PCH as i needed the loo. What a total gem and a great surprise. Hidden away in the trees is a little memorial garden, cinema and cafe/library. Definitely worth a stop for a nosey around. The chairs are very cleverly made out of old 8 track tapes and lots of other recycled stuff.... More

This little library is really charming and the staff was lovely. It was not really big but I still enjoyed the type of books they had. They had free coffee for visitors but I would have like some wifi since there was a picnic area where there was supposed to be some.

Had to stop in to pay homage to Henry. Nice grounds, good selection of books, a restful top on the way down the coast highway.

Thank jmckphil
