Nice place to visit for one day but not longer. Plan when to visit as everything closes after 23 August, we visited in September & it was like a ghost town, nothing was open at all! Not one coffee shop or restaurant. Very attractive location & maybe in the season it would be very busy, possibly even too busy, but... More

I worked at Balaton when I was younger and then the area was different, tourists as well. However time is changing, people and generations, too, and hopefully everything is developing. Balaton is still the inner sea of the country and target of many tourists from inland or neighbour countries. Still beautiful in each season, and everybody can find their own... More

Came here for the Balaton Sound festival which deserves another review in its own right but the lake itself is superb. We found a pedal boat guy renting these cheaply so took a nice paddle out. Great views especially sunset in the evening Good few places to eat and drink too! Can see why its very popular

Renting a car and driving up to Lake Balaton in Hungary would be worthwhile plan if planning a trip to Budapest. It's a about 1.5 hours drive away. It's around 73kms long spreading its beautiful views throughout its route. Throughout the route there are entry points into the lake, with benches surrounding the steps like a private BBQ or fishing... More

About three hours drive from Budapest, lake Balaton is a popular holiday destination for Hungarians and international visitors. Especially popular among families with kids, maybe because of the shallow waters, possibly cheaper holidays. I was simply underwhelmed. Not really my cup of tea.

You can easily spend the day here chilling out while the kids amuse themselves in the Lake or in the park. The chimney cake is amazing and must be tried when you see them walking around selling it fresh. If the heat is a concern then go after 4pm when it's cooler and cheaper too.

Take a bath in the lake, sunbathe, eat some fish, watch old people passing by. This is most of what you can do here. Try renting a boat and go sailing on the lake.

Really nice lake. The water was pretty warm (July 2016 during the balaton sound festival). It is perfect for stand up paddle ! We totally recommand this place !!
