Fantastic food perfectly cooked, lovely ambience and great service throughout the evening. Have read the other reviews about unfriendly service but can honestly say that our experience was the complete opposite.

We had not been to the Chequers for a while so when friends from NZ staying in Alton wanted to meet us we suggested this pub. I do not think I have ever been made to feel so unwelcome in a pub. Our friends arrived first and were told curtly by a female member of staff that there was no... More

Visited as a research trio for a possible nice meal out with the family. Cannot see this happening due to the unfriendly reception. Will take my money somewhere where it is appreciated. Such a shame seeing as the menu and the surroundings are great .

The village of Well is not exactly just off the beaten track but make the journey and you will be rewarded with not just a lovely meal but a brilliant overall experience. The setting is stunning and eating outside with the over hanging vines and lovely summer plants, you feel you could be in Italy. There is a good selection... More

We all thought the food both fish ( fantastic ) and meat dishes were presented well and tasted great . I left my glasses in the resturant and the staff have been so kind in returning them to me by post . We travelled a fair distance to try the food and hospitality and we will revisit .

Second visit and won't be coming back. First visit was better as we did not experience the sour face landlady, our first experience of this woman will be our last. The younger staff are really nice, but she is dreadful and I can't believe with all the comments about her on here that she is still facing people. She should... More

Booked a table for 4 on Friday night were told that only an 8.30 table was available. When we arrived the place was packed. We felt under pressure from the moment we walked in to get our orders placed. Around 9.45 the place completely emptied leaving us in the corner half way though our meal. The staff then started to... Well tucked away down very winding lanes but well worth the effort. Very welcoming atmosphere and the dining experience is great. Menu is varied and lots of fish dish specials which were expertly prepared and presented.

don't think about having a celebration there at the weekend - they are not interested. their only interest is turnover of covers. we tried to book the dining room for 17 people for a sunday lunch time birthday celebration and the manager made it quite clear we were not welcome. He insisted we ordered our food a week in advance... More
