Came here because my friend is obsessed with the sugar industry - found it enlightening about the history of the workers. They have old machinery they used to use and the plaques very informative. Two lovely ladies on reception. Worth a visit... It's fairly small but a lot of reading, we were in an out within 1hour as on a... More

An impressive collection of old harvesting equipment and ancient computer gear. The info plaques were also good, and didn't shy away from the human trafficking of the industry's past. As most of the area from north of Mossman down to the NSW border has sugar cane growing it gave us a wonderful explanation of the process, with so much historic equipment , information and film show. Well worth a visit .

Web site, brochures and trading hours shown on the front door clearly states "open Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm." We arrived at 4.10 pm Friday 6/5/2016 and were abruptly told by the gentleman carrying the cashier till that it was closed! I pointed out to him that the web site and the sign on the door together... Fascinating place. Lots of old machinery and interesting fact about the sugar cane industry past and present. There was an interesting film about the invention of the harvesting machines. We also had a free DVD, a small bag of sugar and some jelly beans.

Travelling from Port Douglas we were surrounded by this tropical plant but knew nothing about it apart it eventually ended up as sugar. We came across this museum as we headed south and decided to stop hoping that it would answer a few questions. SO pleased we did. Greeted by two lovely ladies and paid just $12 dollars to view...
