These hot pools are in a lovely setting - surrounded by bush. If it had not been raining we would have stayed a little longer and explored the tracks. The hots pools are the real deal - a mineral hot spring. We took a tribe of kids and they had so much fun. We then had lunch on one of... More

We stopped off here for a beautiful soak and recharge on our way from Gisborne to Napier. There's something here for all - larger pools for those with kids, private pools for those wanting a bit of alone time and plunge pools a seven-minute walk into the bush (along a sealed, flat path) for those wanting something a bit hotter.... Real hot spring water, full of minerals, set in the backdrop of giant trees and palms. No fuss and yet accessible with paved walkway up to Nikau palm forest upper hot pools. So lovely on your way to Mahia or back from East Cape. Bigger walks in this beautifully maintained department of conservation spot.

The stunning coastal forest of Morere is the perfect setting for the Morere Hot Springs. Everything feels so magical from thick forest to the birds flying around. The slightly salted fossilised sea water is a bliss and the whole experience on a rainy day feels like pure indulgence.

This is a peaceful spot where you can picnic, soak in hot pools or swim in a cold pool close to the road. Or take a short or long walk through beautiful bush to another set of hot pools in the open. The Mangakawa Track - 2.5 hours loop walk - was steep with lots of steps and some stream-bed scrambles... More

The place is very well kept. The short walk to the Nikau pools is wonderful for it's diversity of flora and the birds are quite racous. The pools range in temperature from real hot to medium to cold as the dickens. Private pools are available as is a large CATD pool and an indoor larger hot spa. There are plenty... More

These pools are relaxing and there are a variety of pools to chose from. The outside pool was very refreshing on a hot day. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Made a nice break on our journey from Gisborne to Napier. Short circular walk of a leisurely 30 minutes can be topped off with a quick dip in the hot springs. Ice cream if you're really well behaved.

Visited here on our way through to napier from gisborne. I wouldn't make a special trip out to it. It's fairly cheap, but in the middle of nowhere (50min from gisborne). The hot water looks disgusting from all the mineral so put me off a bit. The cold water pool was clean and refreshing.

Yes, Morere Hot Springs is known for its healing waters full of valuable minerals that some people may interpret as "disgusting" but are very therapeutic. Numerous hot springs around NZ, many that would be classed as expensive, you would be bathing in chlorine. Morere in the "middle of nowhere" many people visit for that very reason, and then return again.... More
