Maha Saman Dewalaya is located near the Rathnapura - Panadura road. It is nice place and have the historical value. The annual Saman Dewalaya perahara is great. If you are looking to visit Rathnapura, I recommend you to visit this out first.

This is one of the most famous temples in around Rathnapura. Its few kilometers from from the town on the Horana -Rathnapura Road. The powerful god Saman who looks after Sri lanka is been blessed in this temple. if you make a wish it comes true for lot of worshipers. The temple is in a huge land beautiful buildings and most important this which I saw was the 500 year old live growing rock tree inside the shrine which you must see. their is a elephant at the temple ,please don't try to feed or touch him with out getting advice from the caretaker of the elephant.

Renowned for its power and capacity to help people, this is a fascinating place to visit. It is also an architectural gem. The stalls outside are also an eye-opener for visitors. The Annual Perahera is great.

A place where most of the locals (Mainly Buddhists) visit sometime several times a year. A sacred shrine with a long history. This place is dedicated to the god "Saman" who has close ties with Buddhism and Lord Buddha. Famous Sri Pada (Also known as Adam's Peak) pilgrimage starts from here first for the Sri Pada pilgrimage season.

Not a bad place to visit if you're close by... If you're a religious person a must visit in the district. The main pooja closed between 12.00-15.00.

There are not many activities, what to do in Rathnapura-buying gems and visit this temple. Temple is popular for budhists and it is interesting for tourists ,too. Aspatialy in the evening, when only few local people are there and no tourists. It is nice, historical and peaceful place for a short stop , when staying in Rathnapura.
