South of Panque there are a range of Cascades and waterfalls - afterall it is in a jungle-like climate with plenty of water to be found. The Misol-Ha Falls are very popular on the "tourist map" and it can get slightly crowded. There ia descending pathway from the car park down to the base of the Falls - there is slight up-hill path which takes you behind the actual veil of water up to a small cave that allows you to walk to an enclosed grotto. Note well that the grotto is pitch black and the water level is about shin deep - you need to take off your shoes and roll-up the legs of your pants. It can be slippery and the underwater floor is strewn with odd rocks here and there. We entered using the torch function on our mobile phones. Sometimes there is a person at the entrance with a powerful torch and a bin to put your shoes in - a small monetary tip is appropriate. Inside the grotto there are a couple of bats swooping around and also a small waterfall that spouts from a hole in the cave wall. There are two places to enter the lake at the base of the waterfall - one near where the waterfall Cascades down and one back down from the car park.

Since it had rained for the 2 days prior to our visit the cave and area behind the waterfall were closed. However we loved being there! Wear a swimsuit, you will get soaked if you get close.I wore rain boots.

Visited Misol-Ha as part of a day tour from San Cristobal (Stopping at Agua Azul, Miso-Ha and Palanque). Logistically doing a tour made the most sense for me as this area between San Cristobal and Palenque is very sketchy due to rampant poverty and patches of rebel Zapatista. Robberies and highway hold ups are not uncommon.
I thought the waterfall was fantastic. Very picturesque with a 35m drop into a deep pool below. The shape of it almost looks like a little amphitheatre which adds to the beauty.
A path allows you to walk around and behind the waterfall. There is a small cave you can go into at the cost of 10 peso which we decided not to do.
You can swim here and lifejackets were available for those who aren’t so confident at a cost of 30 peso. Unfortunately we didn’t have enough time to take a swim.
It was a lot less commercial that’s Agua Azul which I liked. It only had a couple of vendors and a small cafeteria selling drinks.
Overall I rated it.

This waterfall is definitely worth the short stop on the way to Palenque. You can walk behind the waterfall. Don’t bother paying the few extra pesos to walk in the cave and see another waterfall. It’s nothing special. If you have extra time, you can take a swim in the waterfall basin.

The only reason I did not give the 5 stars has nothing to do with the actual cascades. Unfortunately it rained the night before and when it rains the water becomes cloudy and not the usual bright blue. The waterfall is nice and there is a nice area to swim but with the cloudy water, it was not allowed. You can walk behind the waterfall and the view is impressive.

I heard it was just a single drop waterfall but it really is beautiful and powerful once you get closer to it, there is restaurant outside of falls site and paid bathroom. Be careful as steps can be slippery but there is rail

A must go if you’re in the Palenque area. We definitely did not expect the waterfall to be so massive and well reserved. There were not a bunch of vendors overwhelming the visitors like the other sites BUT the way here from San Cristobal was sketchy AF. The guys in oxchuc have their own entry fees by hand made wooden planks with nails to keep your vehicle from entering and leaving their city and women and children are standing on the side of the road with a rope to keep vehicles from passing to aggressively sell you things you don’t need. I just wish the government could help these people out because they have to do what they know to survive. I would recommend booking a tour guide. We tried to do the solo thing due to covid but it didn’t work in our favor either. Definitely book a guide since they are more familiar with the locals.

These falls are quite high. There is a reasonable path behind the falls through to the other side. A waterproof jacket is advised. Swimming is possible (and looks good) in the pool at the bottom

Si te animas a ir te recomiendo

Hi
I am looking for a tour just to see the waterfalls - but it seems that there's only tours including the ruins, which we plan to do on a separate day...do you have any suggestions on operators for such tours and should I book in advance or should I wait until I get there?

A mí me organizó mi recorrido "Viajes Bonsai" tel. (961) 6025954.
