- Elizabethfirst132 contributionsbest lighthouse on PEIOf the 3 lighthouses we visited on PEI, Point Prim was the best and most worthwhile to drive out to. However, be aware that it is also the most difficult one to climb to the top of. Don’t wear flimsy footwear and watch your head. If you want stairs rather than ladders, consider going to one of the many other lighthouses on the island.Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten July 29, 2024
- Wlad FToronto, Canada62 contributionsGo upstairs!Lovely place, the ladies in the gift shop were very polite and kind, they had just finished cleaning and it smelled so good in there 😊. They have the old reflector from North Cape (quite far). They charge the visit inside the lighthouse, but it's worthy. Watch you step, step boards are narrow.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten August 18, 2024
- TrailTrekker15Tallahassee, Florida5,496 contributionsBeautiful Lighthouse and CoastlineMy wife and I visited Point Prim Lighthouse on the recommendation of our bed and breakfast hosts. The lighthouse is situated less than 30 min from Charlottetown on a beautiful stretch of rugged coast. We climbed the lighthouse via ladders. Each level told the story of the lighthouse and gave a snapshot of life when keepers tended the light. The views from the top were spectacular! Even if you don’t climb the lighthouse, it is worth visiting. It’s a popular spot so be prepared to wait to climb the lighthouse. The gift shop also had a lot of locally made gifts and souvenirs. In my opinion, this is a must-see spot on PEI if you’re on this part of the island.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten September 7, 2024

We arrived at Point Prim lighthouse for sunset and were happy we got to see the beautiful sunset. Nice spot to spend an evening and see the beautiful views you get when you arrive.
We were lucky to see some baby foxes in the area too, which made the visit better.
They have benches and a good size area - which can used to have a picnic setup for people to spend few hours at.
Definitely worth visiting when you have time.

Our son really wanted to go into a lighthouse this year and this is 1 you can go to the top. Inside they have lots of history with pictures, items and etc from many years ago. Going up the stairs is a bit of a challenge, I wouldn't recommend it for the elderly. You go up 4-5 sets of stairs to get to the top. At the top you have a good view of the PEI coastline.

A tour of the inside of this lighthouse is very well worth it! Lots of interesting stuff inside, and the view is spectacular! There is a gift shop with lots of beautiful stained glass, jewelry, hats and tee shirts. A nice way to spend an afternoon.

It is nice to see the views from Point Prim. The lighthouse was closed when we were there in May. Apparently it opens for tours in July and August. But the location on a dramatic point looking across the water to Nova Scotia is well worth the drive.

i’ve been visiting point prim (and climbing it) just about every 3 years since I was a child. i’ll be 30 next month and took a trip up to the island with my dad to visit some family, so of course point prim was on my to do list! the view is amazing with the red cliffs behind the lighthouse. easily my favorite lighthouse on the island (and the one i’ve climbed the most!)

The oldest lighthouse on the island and one of the few circular brick lighthouses on Canada. The grounds are beautiful and clean and include a play area for small children. We did not go up the lighthouse as it is of course not disability accessible, but we expected that. The gift shop was beautiful with a old light from the lighthouse and the staff there were kind and helpful. There is also a chowder house nearby and a teeny beach with public access. Not sure why Trip Advisor says it's closed unless that happened very recently, we were there a couple days ago.

We decided to take a detour from our travels and check out this lighthouse. It is just beautiful. The shoreline is breathtaking and it wasn't busy at all when we visited.
