The oldest lighthouse on PEI
Jul. 2021
This is worth a 30 minute drive from Charlottetown to visit this lighthouse. It is so well maintained and interesting. Pay the small fee to go to the top. The views are spectacular! Cap off the trip with a chowder at the restaurant.

Best Lighthouse on PEI
Jul. 2021
I've visited many lighthouses in PEI including Souris, East Point, West Point and North Point, but until I visited Point Prim I hadn't seen the best. This is the only round brick lighthouse in Atlantic Canada and it's a beauty. The sign going in says it is the only one in Canada, but our guide said it was one of three. It's also the oldest lighthouse on the island, dating back to 1845.

Visiting the gift shop which is actually an exceptional display of PEI craftsmanship, is free. If you can resist buying something here you are the exception. We opted for a mermaid doll for our granddaughter.

The visit is not complete without entering and climbing the lighthouse which does require a fee. The climb to the top is not that hard, but requires concentration because the steps are more like a ladder than a stairway. As usual the view from the top is great as it is from any lighthouse I've ever climbed. On the way up you can see the immensely tiny room (an oxymoron I know, but appropriate) where the lighthouse keeper stayed before the separate keeper's house was built. Kids will love the little box with a handle that actually activates a fog horn.

The Belfast area of PEI has a ton of things to do and it is well worth turning down Point Prim Road to see some of them including the Hannah Bottle Village and having great seafood at Point Prim Chowder House.

Did you know that Point Prim Lighthouse is an amazing venue for an outdoor summer wedding? It's also a venue of choice for the annual "ham radio" (PEI amateur radio) group to contact folks from around the world. Dog friendly too (on lead, of course).

Son wanted to go in lighthouse
Aug. 2020
Our son really wanted to go into a lighthouse this year and this is 1 you can go to the top. Inside they have lots of history with pictures, items and etc from many years ago. Going up the stairs is a bit of a challenge, I wouldn't recommend it for the elderly. You go up 4-5 sets of stairs to get to the top. At the top you have a good view of the PEI coastline.

Exceptional stop
Oct. 2019
This was a fabulous stop to make. This lovely lighthouse is the oldest working lighthouse on the island. MT here is such a history to hear and read. The museum in the lighthouse is an absolute must to see and learn about the history...what was exciting was the guide was the wife of the grandson of the longest serving light keeper for the lighthouse. She was actually married at the lighthouse. We loved making the fog horn blow and climbed up to the top for some spectacular views.

A calming tour of history. The museum in the lighthouse is a must. So fantastic to learn about the history behind this building. Very friendly staff and knowledgeable about the details. It will be a memory I’ll have with my kids. Loved this first stop in PEI.

A lovely lighthouse to visit. We got a warm welcome, we learned about the history of the lighthouse and then got to climb to the top to see the beautiful view. There’s a very nice gift shop too.

A first for me ... worth it.
Sep. 2019
This is the oldest lighthouse in PEI.
I did the climb which was graduated into 4 levels. I am very glad I did it. The descent requires concentration but is manageable.
The history of the lighthouse is evident. We made the light work and blasted the fog horn.
When you see the keepers living quarters on the third level you have to respect and admire his devotion.
Totally worth the $5.00 admission price. The ladies working there are well suited to what they do. They are proud and interested.
The gift shop is lovely as is the lady running it.

Experience climbing to the top of the lighthouse
Aug. 2019
Kids would love to go here. They get to climb to the top of the lighthouse. The stairs are steep, so be careful. It may be difficult for elders. Kids can also blow the foghorn kept at the base of the lighthouse. The views are amazing. Sunset from this point is a must watch if you can be there in the evening. Picturesque views all around. I'm glad we went there.
