Beautiful yarn at a good price. Plus a rock shop, also with beautiful pieces at good prices. They have lots of fossilized rocks, including a huge (6 feet long) magnificent fossilized rock by the front door. Well worth a stop.

My husband and stopped at the Belfast Mini Mill as I was hoping to buy some yarn. We walked into the shop and were enthralled. We were given a guided tour of the mill; we learned about the history of the business and learned what kind of work is done there. The mill produces equipment that is sold all over the world. The machinery is small scale which is what makes this mill unique. They can process small batches of wool from merino to Samoyed to musk ox. I never wanted to leave. The prices in the shop were fair and reasonable, allowing me to try some yarns that I wouldn’t have dreamed of buying in pricier shops. In another room a class was in progress on needle felting. The people taking the class we’re having a ball. Classes are offered as people want them and we only wished we had had some extra time to take part. We met the grandmother who started the whole thing and her two dogs who sat patiently watching her weave. This place is an absolute delight.

If I said that a great place to visit in PEi does this -
"Belfast Mini Mills, LTD. manufactures a full line of cottage industry fiber spinning machinery. The machinery enables the processing of raw animal fibers or man-made fibers into yarn. The Belfast Mini Mill is capable of processing small batches down to ounces or grams in size or large commercial size batches of tons.
Although the individual machines are small, relative to a large commercial mill, they have been designed to be modular. We can configure a Belfast Mini Mill to do just what you want in the highest quality end products and required production. We are also capable of customizing our equipment to facilitate operation with other makes of machinery." -
you would probably think that I was crazy. We visited this place as part of our Rusty Rover Tour (which I have reviewed elsewhere on TripAdvisor. The company makes machines that can convert the fibers from any animal to beautiful yarn. We had a tour of about 1 hour there and would have gladly stayed longer. I should add that none of us on the tour was into knitting but the place was still very interesting.
Attached to the equipment demonstration plant is a mill store where they sell yarns produced in their own plants as well as finished knitted goods from almost any animal imaginable.
If you are into knitting, weaving, or felting, you must visit this place.

We were told that this place would be a fun day. I suppose if you love textiles it might be. Basically it is a small mill and gift shop. It is in the middle of no where, and frankly not worth the drive. You could go to any wool shop and get the same thing. The gift shop is VERY expensive.

Stopped here on the way to the Wood Island Ferry.
We weren't sure what to expect, but were disappointed there weren't more animals around. It was a hot day, so it is possible they were off hiding in the shade.
The store contained a LOT of supplies and we even spied some yarn made from dog hair, which was a first for us.

The Belfast Mini Mills was suggested by a convenience store operator where we had stopped. The mill was a fantastic find and highly recommend it to anyone interested in the manufacture of animal haircloth.
It seems that the machines are made by the men and the manufacture and tour are given by the women. The owner's wife showed us around even though we had arrived 20 minutes before opening. The different machines do the carding of the animal hair, dying, spinning and felting processes. I say animal hair because they are set up to do any animal hair that comes their way.
A most interesting tour. They have a store that carries products that are made by some of their clients.

A friend and I stopped at the Belfast Mini Mills on our vacation to PEI. We did a short Needle Felting class and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Neither of us had ever tried this art before and the staff was super friendly, visiting and offering coffee/tea as we worked on our project. It was only $10 to make a card, all supplies included, and we were there for 2 hours!

A recent trip brought us here on the recommendation of our innkeeper. If you are a knitter or crocheter this is nirvana. We were greeted by a flock of exotic chickens, two donkeys and some very plump sheep and finally by a charming young lady who treated us to a tour of the sight and explained in fascinating detail the processes going from sheep to wool. The gift shop was a delight of wool and wool products and we did a lot of gift shopping. If you are travelling with children this is a must see destination as the menageree was as entertaing as the mill itself, A favourite aspect was the sign on the washroom door cautioning to keep it closed a the chickens may wander in. In all an excellent site to visit for quality of goods and an entertaing learning experience

This is a bit hidden but has an extensive selection of high quality wool, at a premium price. Much of the space is dedicated to felting materials and projects. The lady at reception was helpful.

Everyone who visits Belfast Mini Mills has a wonderful experience. Even those who are not crafty with yarns and felts an all such. The operators are fantastic sisters, welcoming, knowledgable, fossil-hunters, world traveler. They can turn the hair of a huge range of animals (dogs, cat, yaks, sheep, llamas and alpacas, musk ox - just to name a few) into yarn. Fine yarn, coarse yarn, must-strands, whatever twist you need. You can title along your favourite photo and they will make a base felt for you and give you the various colours of yarns to reproduce your photo in felt - gorgeous! Oh, if you don't know how to do it, they will teach you - and your kid if you want. Great project for a day that is not so nice on a beach.
They do tours of their mill and retail shop that are so interesting even husbands become enthralled! Oh, did I say that their main job, with their menfolk, is designing and building machines to do all the tasks of yarn making. The machines are sold all over the world, all across North America, South America, Australia and New Zealand, South America, Kazakhstan; the islands of Scotland and the mountains of Bolivia. It is nothing short of fascinating to ruminate on the places they sell their mills. I daydream of accompanying the installers and handing the tools to them as needed. Heck I would even carry their luggage for them.
A world-class operation run by wonderful people right here in Prince Edward Island, Our Island. Who woulda thunk it?
