The Purangi Winery was established in 1986 the 37th winery in New Zealand...

The Purangi Winery was established in 1986 the 37th winery in New Zealand on land cleared from second growth scrub in 1972 by the Ecans Family who moved from Hong Kong and who were welcome settlers by the district in 1966 after buying land from the Harsant and Wigmore Families and then owning and operating the Hahei Store. The land now 60 acres was farmed running cows, pigs, sheep and goats then planted supplying the Auction Markets with table grapes, kiwifruit, passionfruit, garlic and fresh produce from the market garden. Later crayfishing down the Purangi River and then a commercial river cruise got started after the winery was established. In 1987/8 we opened awine bar cafe "The Buttery". In 1993 tea planting was undertaken with the establishment of the Tea Research Institute of NZ. When land was cleared originally organic principles were adopted and over the years many "Wooferd" and "HelpXers" have volunteered their help so that our products are made in the tranditional manner with the purest ingredients hence the company name PURANGI ESTATE LTD or "Purest".

The Winecellar in St. Kevins Arcades, K'Road, Auckland was started in 2004 and is now a popular city bar and music venue.

In 2009 we built a wood fired pizza oven and launched the PURANGI WINERY PIZZERIA which has been very popular - we produce many of the ingredients for our pizzas, making the basil pesto and pizza sauce and using a wide range of fresh herbs and vegetables from the garden.

I understand that they are about to change location but we found our visit there last week just brilliant. The atmosphere was very casual and laid back which is what we like. I hope they keep this vibe after they move. My 12 year old sun loved the table tennis table , the wood burning stove and we all loved... More

Absolutely loved my experience here, not at all what I was expecting. There's just something so special and different about Purangi, the laid back rustic vibe, minimalistic plastic chairs and ping pong table make for a very fun afternoon in the sun. Not for those expecting a "fancy" winery experience as the place almost reminds you of an antique shop... More

Stopped in on our way to another vineyard while on vacation in the Coromandel. This place blew us away with their friendly staff, low key and laid back they made us feel really welcome. A great sampling of spirits, liqueurs and a few wines. I highly recommend the lemon Gin, absolutely delicious with some ice and soda water. Can't wait... More

Was heading to another winery but was recommended to go here, so glad we did!! This place was so authentic and the staff were amazing. We did the tasting of all there liqueurs and wines which were delish! even came away with a few purchases. Would 100% recommend the pizza as well, so delish and traditional :)

Had lunch and a tasting here and it was a laugh we had so much fun . Group of us dropped into the funky bar and ordered food. While we waited we went to the area for tasting various liquors behind the bar and food area. The guy doing the tastings is mad as a brush but so much fun... More

Can't say enough good things for Danny and the crew and the awesome range of liquors, wine, and food they serve up. Danny greets you with a 'show' about the history of feijoas that will surprise you and is awesome for a laugh. The pizzas and squid are delicious and the cidar and liquors have a great fresh taste of... More

As a lot of travellers I think, we were looking for a free camping. And finally was the best experience we had in the Coromandel. We had a free testing and delicious pizza. We left with a bottle of feijoa liquor to offer to some friends in Auckland. They loved it!!

Stumbled across this place at night - we were all hungry as. The host looked after us very well and has some great yarns. The best oven baked pizzas, and the feijoa liquor tasting a real treat. This place has its own individual vibe. A must visit place if you are in the area. A memorable experience!
