Not much left to see here in terms of architecture, but since the ruins stand on top of a hill, you get a great view of Waimea Bay and part of the valley. Lots of wild chicken roaming around, so be careful not to run them over on the way up or down !

Hard to find - g***le maps thinks it is on the road by the beach park. It isn’t! Access is via Pupukea Road, further NE.
There’s not much to see, (just the walls really), but do visit to see a little of the historical culture pre the US annexation. Also to honour the three Royal Navy sailors possibly sacrificed here!
Some great views also.
30 minutes is plenty.

This was the second heiau we visited on O’ahu, and this was much bigger and better than the one near Kailua. The view from the top overlooking Waimea Bay is fabulous, and the history of the heiau is interesting. The road going up is a little tight with many speed bumps, but it won’t take more than 20 or 30 minutes round trip from the Kamehameha Highway to visit.

We opted to hike the 7 miles up to the top, rather than drive & walk around the monument. There is a view point that shows a spectacular view of Waimea Bay State Park below & just the beauty of the foliage & hills. Also, there is an altar where people have placed all kinds of items, in addition to food & beer cans. Not sure how appropriate that is, but I guess "to each his own." There were chickens abound & some up on the altar eating the food. Nice short trail around the monument. I wouldn't call it a hiking trail, that's why we hiked up from the bottom. Overall, a nice place to get some great history.

Found this hidden gem while following the gypsy driving tour! So glad we went to see it because the views are incredible! Thoroughly enjoyed the views which consist of the beach, Waimea valley and the surrounding hills. Just beautiful.

Loved visiting this spiritual place however as we arrived a local was feeding some wild pigs from their car. After they were done, the pigs disappeared into the tall grass. We left our car in the parking area and headed out along the path to see the view and read the history of the site. As we were headed back, we noticed the wild pigs now along the trail searching for more food it appeared. Terrified we tried to go around the other way but there was no path. Fearful I wanted to climb up the monument but knowing that was disrespectful we waited to see if the pigs would leave. It appeared they were so we started back to the parking lot. Another couple watching waited in their car to see if we safely made it back to our car. As we got near the parking lot the pigs started approaching us, I ran past them as they started coming towards us and jumped in our car. I thanked the other visitors for watching us in case we had been harmed.

If you are not looking for this place you will not find it. Using the Gypsy guide app. (Excellent app) you take a beautiful drive through a very winding road all the way up to the top of the mountain. There are chickens all over the place. Maybe they’re guarding the temple. We love this place. Very little people up here and the view is amazing. Highly recommend.

Nice drive to the parks, lots of speed bumps and curves. Worth a stop 🛑 for a different angel of the beach. Wild chickens run the area.

It will not be a waste of your time. It's free and has handicapped parking! We got to see a stampede of chickens! The hill doesn't have public restrooms. There is a spot were Locals visit snd leave gifts such as fruits of all kinds and flower lei for spirits of this place.
P.S. We enjoyed the peace and quiet.
