The quality of rugs and tablecloths is exceptional as is the service in this store. If we are looking for Oaxacan Handicrafts this store is usually our first stop . The staff are very knowledgeable regarding the history of the handcrafts sold in the store

We stopped here twice now. Our friends purchased ponchos last night. Stay for the information centre, you sit on the bench and the young lady tells you how everything is made from the natural dies to the wool making. Beautiful handmade rugs. Friendly and English speaking as well.

We stopped here with Huatulco Tours Enrique to shop for some Oaxacan souvenirs. There was so much to look at!! The alebrijes were beyond amazing with the crazy fine details. The sugar skulls and dia de los muertos figurines were intriguing and beautiful all at once. The black and brown clay pottery was very pretty along with the other intricately carved figurines and vases. We watched the loomers at work making rugs and runners and the demonstration about how the all natural color process of dying the sheep's wool is fascinating. They will humor you that they take all kinds of payment... Mexican pesos, plastic money, trade-ins on husbands and taxi cab drivers... ;-) I can't say that things are inexpensive there BUT I can truly appreciate the work that goes into making these handicrafts. Just because we are in Mexico doesn't mean we HAVE TO try to bargain all the time. I was happy to pay full price for what I bought...I felt it was more than fair and I would never try to bargain with an American artisan so I won't do it in Mexico either. I wanted a runner or rug with turtles and they searched through the stacks until I got what I wanted. I was allowed to take pictures at the looms but not of the alebrijes...but Oh my gosh were they elaborate. They wrapped my purchases very securely so they would not be damaged on the flight home. I could see things all over this shop becoming a new collector's obsession!! I got some beautiful souvenirs that will forever remind me of a beautiful vacation with my husband.

if you are in huatulco, which is a pretty, unspoiled port city with a thriving metropolis over the hill........by all means visit the museum of oaxacan handicrafts. we know our oaxacan art especially the wood carvings. this is not only the real deal but a virtual cornucopia of signed art pieces----for a collector, hard to decide which one(s). the sales people are calmly helpful and know the prices and if they don't they go find out. it's not just oaxacan wood carvings.......but that's the reason to visit. prices are as good as you will find outside of the artists villages; and as less and less of this fine art gets across the border.......the top artists are selling at very reasonable prices. we found the museum following a ship's tour......around the corner from several relaxed coffee shops (with wifi).

Hi baird t. We are very happy to know that you enjoyed visiting the Museum of Crafts. We appreciate the recommendation. It was a pleasure for us to serve you and show you our authentic and original crafts. Since 1992 we have continued to fight strongly against the plagiarism of our work, that is why it is very important to grant it our direct manufacturing signature.

We knew we wanted to pick up textiles when we were going down to Huatulco but didn't have anything specific in mind. When we found Museo de Artesanias we could have left with the entire store. The quality and craftsmanship is wonderful - you will find cheaper rugs and blankets elsewhere but they will never match this quality. The family takes pride in what they do and it shows. Have them show you how they get the different colors for the textiles, I was blown away.

A great place to learn on Oaxacan rugs are made, sample some mescal and pick up some nice souvenirs. This is a quaint little shop that we stopped in while visiting Hualtulco. It is just up the road from the resorts in a nice little town that has a beautiful plaza. It was fun to see how the yarn was made and weaved into rugs and learn about the indigenous culture. Not easy to find but worth looking finding.

We really enjoyed our shopping experience. The workmanship was exceptional and we were impressed by the explanation and history behind the products produced. Definitely worth the price for what we bought.

This is not a museum but rather a shop with some examples of how the handcrafts are made. That said, there is some good quality work for sale if you are looking for souvenirs or gifts. The staff were memorably helpful and friendly.

Hi Susanna R. We appreciate your comment and your recommendation. The Museum of Crafts was created in 1992. Thanks to the efforts of various artisans. He has fought hard for several years against the plagiarism of our handicrafts and has been in charge of offering a place for handmade creations to be exhibited in a worthy place such as a Museum, with the option of buying. It was a pleasure to assist you.

They do have crafts from various parts of Oaxaca. There is a market a few steps away that have similar items. The market is a warren and this is displayed with care.
