Paul expertly guided us through the waters outside Sydney, BC on a glorious afternoon sailing charter. In addition to experiencing the pure joy of wind in the sails and hearing nothing but splash of the sea against the bow, we also learned interesting things about the surrounding islands and wildlife (look seals!), had some hands-on sailing time, and ate some delicious snacks. We were fortunate to have a beautiful, sunny day, but I have no doubt that under Paul's care, we would have had just as much fun in almost whatever weather Mother Nature could have thrown our way. We would do this again in a heartbeat!

I spent 5 days aboard completing the `Basic Cruise and Learn Course` with Paul. His knowledge and hospitality made this trip stand out as an experience that far exceeded my expectations. Aside from his wealth of knowledge about sailing- he also shared his love of cooking and collection of life experiences. His warm demeanor and passion for sailing made a course, which could have been overwhelmingly technical, feel manageable and fun! Walking away from the course, I feel confident with the content that we covered on the boat and I am inspired to learn more. I`d strongly recommend choosing to learn with Paul, should you have the opportunity!

Great Experience! Paul is a very calm, patient instructor and quickly gets the students "hands-on". He is also a fabulous host and made sure that everyone was completely comfortable, while providing excellent food. We got to experience a wide range of sailing conditions while cruising through amazing scenery (and seeing wildlife close-up). Would recommend it to anyone!

What a fun few hours of sailing with our captain Paul. He was gracious, informative and very fun. And our snacks were top rate. We had great winds, saw Mount Baker in the distance, and had an all around fun time.

Simply spectacular! What an incredible learning adventure. From learning to sail, anchor, read the tides, get our sea legs, to good food, good company, amazing scenery, playing cards, hiking the gulf islands, to the seals and otters and the orcas visit on the last day.
Paul is a very patient and thorough instructor, i look forward to taking more training with him next summer. Jenn and I had an incredible life experience.

Had a great trip with Bug Blue Sailing on their live aboard 5-day Basic Cruising Course. The course was comprehensive and educational, all while being a lot of fun. Paul (the instructor) is calm and collected, with a great wit and perspective earned from his vast experience sailing in the North Pacific. He was hands on, informative, and full of great practical and technical advice. This is a great vacation for anyone looking to learn to skipper their own boat, while exploring the sights of the beautiful coastline of Vancouver Island. From sunsets in picturesque national park coves to days sailing with orcas and seals along coastal shores, Big Blue and their team were great to learn from, while not having to worry about anything. Oh and the food was amazing at each meal.

We booked a three hour sailing adventure with Paul of Big Blue Sailing. Unfortunately the weather was too windy that day to do any actual sailing, but Paul took us out thought the Victoria Habor to see if he could find some calmer water. Even though we did not get to sail we had a lovely time just being out on the water. Paul was very congenial and informative. He prepared a lovely lunch for us and was very apologetic about the weather. He offered for us to come back anytime and he would take us out again to make up for our not getting to sail. We very much enjoyed our afternoon with him.
