During our recent travels to Sydney, we took a day to go to Canberra by train. Oh what a pleasant trip it was. The train ride to Canberra and back to Sydney was awesome. During the five hours that we had, we were able to visit the Old and the New Parliament Buildings which were wonderful and so full of... More

This an amazing place to visit. There is a lot to take in and I would recommend trying to do two half days here just to be able to absorb all the stories and information at hand. It can be quite an overload doing it all in one day. We only spent a few hours walking through and still didn't... More

Thank you for visiting the Australian War Memorial. There is a huge amount to see and we recommend a full day or multiple visits if you're able to do so. We have two cafes on site and this is a great way to take a moment to reflect. More

We arrived at 10.30 and left at 5.15 pm after a last post ceremony, The ceremony was a great end to the day, A credit to the people who run it, A great experience for all , We also had lunch at the adjacent Poppys cafe, a bit expensive, The landings cafe internally is better value but less room.

I first visited the AWM over 50 years ago and now visit it regularly because it continues to improve (thanks Brendan Nelson!). Visitors to Canberra often allow 2 to 3 hours to visit here, but should allow a full day. It does not glorify war, but does commemorate those who died in Australia's wars and gives a good idea of... The Australian War Memorial in Canberra is a great place to visit. It is very educational for children 10 to 15, I say this because the visit is an excellent history lesson. Admission is free and you can spend hours browsing. There is a place to eat and things to buy in the gift shop.

Thank you Mavis. The Memorial is a great place for children to learn about Australia's military history (both past and present conflicts). The Discovery Zone is great space for younger children. We hope you can visit again one day soon. More

Firstly I was surprised to find a gold coin donation on entry. I am sure people would pay whatever, now I can see why there were notes in the money container. It was an amazing place to visit, especially when my father served in the war. I can now picture and imagine more about what he went through, as he... More

An afterthought we thought we'd just"pop in" for a couple of hours before it closed. We were very wrong. The stories told via dioramas, auto sensored audio, as well as standard type exhibiting are entrancing and absorbing. Very emotive. Exhibits for everyone as has life sized planes and big guns as well. Closing commemoration ceremony and last post is a... More

Thank you for your review and for coming to visit the Memorial. Most people are surprised by the extent of our displays. We recommend at least 4 hours to get through the entire building - a full day is ideal. We hope to see you here again soon. More
