Even though this is a relatively small museum, you can really get up close to most of the exhibits. As we visited on a day where many volunteers were not available, some areas were restricted and some rolling stock was not available to be inspected. It is a good supplement of interest to other museums in the collection they have.... More

We took this train from Canberra to Bungendore. The staff are very helpful, everything is very well organised. There was one staff member who came through the carriages and told everyone about the history of the area we were passing through and the history of the trains themselves. If you have several groups who have booked individually they will attempt... More

Visited the Museum recently, found the lady at entrance a great source of information, still a lot of work to be done on some of the rolling stock.

This museum has a collection of steam and diesel rolling stock with a variety of passenger carriages. Like most of these sort of things it seems to be run on a shoe string by a bunch of dedicated volunteers who have to acquire both the money and actual skills to keep history live rather than static. This museum warrants significant... More

A great little railway museum in Canberra with several steam and diesel locomotives and a large number of carriages. Some of which are operational and people can ride in. I was there for the naming of a recently restored locomotive and had a great time. They also ran a special train called, 'Our Boys Train' in memory of those lost... More

This is small rail museum, but with a well-preserved collection. It certainly brought back memories for me, as I used to catch some of the carriages and rail motor to school back in the 1970s. Rail enthusiasts such as me will love it, others may not be so enthralled. Opening hours are 10am to 3pm daily. (I'm curious as to... More

The Australian Rail Historical Society runs a range of rail trips from Canberra using a vintage rail motor, steam of various sorts and the occassional diesel. The short trip from the Rail Museum to Fyshwick and back is brilliant for the kids.

The Historical Society run train trips to Bungendore for special events eg Easter, Valentine's Day etc. Passengers need to book tickets in advance as the train rides are usually sold out. Volunteer staff are very helpful and show people to their seats on the train. Our train trip was very unusual in that we had 2 engines to pull the... More

Get away on a romantic train trip and enjoy a great meal to-boot. Lovely food, wine, service whilst enjoying the scenic views from Canberra to Bungendore. Great Value too.
