The National Zoo & Aquarium is privately owned and Australia's only combined Zoo and Aquarium. That's 2 attractions in one! We are situated on around 7 hectares of land just five minutes from the centre of Canberra. With a wide variety of both native and exotic animals, as well as the largest inland saltwater tank in Australia, there is something for everyone. Wander in and have a casual stroll around the park, or make a day of it with family, friends and make use of our picnic areas and complimentary BBQ facilities. Our Animal Encounters provide visitors with an opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the worlds most amazing creatures!

I can highly recommend The zoo venture tour. This is approx 2 - 21/2 hours duration and you're escorted around the zoo by very knowledgeable staff. Part of the tour is feeding a number of the animals, we fed the sun bears, giraffes, tiger, otter and the white lions. We were escorted to the new area, not yet open to... More

It has been many years since I last visited the National Zoo and Aquarium. It has certainly expanded since. We were hosting an American visitor, who loves zoos. I wish I had known about the lodge attached to the zoo. I would have paid for her to enjoy a night there during her time in Canberra. It was a heat... More

Peaceful nature walk with great exotic animals. I recommend staying at the Jamala Wildlife lodge when visiting as waking to the sounds and beauty of the zoo will make you feel like you are in a Jungle get away.

If you have the funds to do the African safari-style stay-over it does look very nice but certainly way out of my price-range. We did spend a good portion of a day at the National Zoo and Aquarium in Canberra in December, the place is quite a bit smaller than most zoos but they pack a lot of great stuff... More

This place is a must to visit. All the animals are beautiful and well looked after and the grounds are well kept. Admission is also very well priced. I would put this at the top of my list as one of Canberra's top attractions. It is an local attraction to be proud of.

This was an incredible experience with a fabulous tour guide named Kelly McGannon! Got to feed several animals and learned lots. Highly recommend. Zoo is undergoing expansion and got to see animals and areas not open to the public yet.

Having read some of the mixed reviews by others I was not sure what to expect when we stayed at the Jamala lodge . We stayed in the Cheetah bungalow and it was a fantastic experience. The initial greeting and introduction was professional and friendly and our afternoon tour was educational , we saw plenty of animals and the narrative... More

We recently as a family visited the zoo and we all did the zoo adventure. It was a fabulous experience. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and had a terrific sense of humour. All the animals are very well looked after and it was carefully explained why they were there, either saved (the moon bears) or are third generation. We... More

I treated myself to the $695 Walk on the Wildside Tour, and I am so glad I did. My wonderful guide Leigh and all the staff and keepers at the National Zoo made me feel like one of the family. I can't even remember all the wonderful animals I interacted with because there were so many, but I hand-fed the... More
